Swelling over port incision

Recommended Posts

I'm about 4 weeks post-op and all my incisions are healing well. The largest one, over the port, still has a noticeable hump or swelling. Is that normal at this point? How long did it take your swelling to disappear over the port?

You very well could have a seroma...which is serous Fluid in a sac that the muscle leaks because it is mad about the port being stitched there. Draining it doesn't necessarily make it go away but time does, and yes, if it is a seroma ir will re absorb over time. Another thing it could be is a displaced fat pad that had to be moved for the surgeon to get to the muscle to sew the port on. I hope it resolves for you in a timely manner.

Best wishes,

Mimi

As long as it's not red and hot, still in the right place, it's probably ok, but if you're really concerned, you should thinking about seeing a medical professional.

Good luck in whatever decide.

No, it's not red or hot. It was like that 2 weeks ago when the surgeon saw it and he was pleased. I just though it would have gone down more by now.

I really didn't watch it that much. If it hurt I noticed but I know it was swollen for some time. sorry I can't be more help but if it hasn't changed since your surgeon saw it, I wouldn't worry..or if you feel better go to your surgeons office.

I developed a An infection from my port, which then led to a seroma which has now led to a port flip. :-( I go in tomorrow to have my surgeon take a look at it. I'll probably need another surgery to fix it. I'm not too thrilled about this but I know it will all be worth it one day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
