No Symptons Normal or not?

Recommended Posts

So I had surgery two weeks from today & I feel a little restrictions but not much. I'm not hungry hungry all the time but I'm afraid that I haven't thrown up (not that I want too), I haven't got anything stuck., I had anything I know of like slimming or what ever people call it or PBing.. I do burp a lot but that's it. Is this normal? I almost feel like I could eat anything even though I'm on mushy foods now. I feel fine. I feel like I'm not even banded! Anyone else feel like this before their first fill?

:lol:This is a very good sign, you are off to a good start. Just follow the rules, don't over do it with anything as you heal.

Sounds like you are on track. Remember, restriction doesn't usually start until you have had at least one and usually three or fills, although it is different for everyone. Just remember to follow the band rules and your dr's advice and youll be right. Good luck.

Congrats! I am glad to hear this, because I am one week post op & have had no problems other than a little fatigue last week. No throwing up or sliming...just burping! So glad you are doing well!

I am alittle over 3 months out and I have no symptoms, but I take it as a good sign. Some of the signs mention are not things I want to experience. I am losing slowly, but I am very content where I am. I am down 35 lbs...and have 42 lbs to go. I did get a tiny fill not sure what it was because I don't want to know now. I don't feel any restriction. I only lost 5 lbs this month, and I am due for another fill next month, but I really feel comfortable where I am. I feel like normal...i chug Water like before...and chew like normal too! I am afraid to get the symptoms and regret the fill. So, be careful, just because u feel normal don't be. Follow ur dr. orders and you will be successful! Good luck to you! AND WELCOME!

Totally normal....I was banded on 4/18/11 and still feel totally normal like I don't have a band. I have to catch myself taking too big of bites at times and slow myself down eating because I have no problems. I've had 3 fills!!! You are doing fine and may not "feel" anything just follow the rules, and try to stay on track no matter how easy it is to "test the waters." Good luck to you in your journey!

I am the same way. I was banded on Aug. 1, 2011. I have been very cautious b/c I don't want to experience any of the bad symptoms. I stick to what my doctor tells me and follow the diet guidelines. I have not had any problems. I sometimes feel I could eat more or chug Water, but I don't do it. I still sip my drinks and stop eating as soon as I no longer feel hungry. I am glad to know that I am not the only one. I sometimes think, is there really a band in there...lol. I look at my scars and the weight that I have lost and realize, it is real :) Good luck to you!! Sounds like you are doing great as well.

I was banded on August 11, 2011 and I too have had no problems. I don't chug Water but I take good sips. I am starting on normal food and I too stop at the full feeling. No bad affects. I too burp a lot but I think that will pass. I am loving the new feeling already. I can't wait for the weight to drip off. WooHoo....loving life!! BTW....join My Fitness Pal if you have a smart phone....holds you accountable....great food journal with a scanner to read bar codes on food!

I was banded on July 19th and feel the same as well. I can chug Water and eat large bites. I try not to but at times I forget. I get fuller faster than I would normally. I had a fill of 3cc last week expecting a huge change and all is the same. I 'am losing slower than I'd like, but i need to increase my exercise. All the best! As they say if It aint broke, dont fix it !!!

You may not feel "banded" for several months. Sorry. I had my surgery 2 8 11 I have only recently felt, not restriction, rather I am able to feel....not hungry for several hours between meals. I am not craving anything between meals.

Please know that you may never feel "restriction" whatever that means. Here is what to look for. Being able to put a "normal" (small) amount of food on your plate, eat that and feel satisfied. You may be able to eat more but you dont "need" to. At some point you will be able to not be hungry for 4 to 5 hours between meals.

Some of the talk about the lapband is misleading and people ( I ) was looking for a "feeling" that wasn't happening for me. When I realized that instead, I was feeling fuller longer and losing weight and still able to eat real food, I was there. I am losing slowly and steadly, It isn't magic and it isn't fast. Be patient and learn to love yourself a little.

The band does work!

I got banded in early June, and I have NEVER slimed, PB'd, or thrown up from the band. I've also never gotten anything stuck. I've only thrown up twice the whole time, but that's because I'm pregnant, not because the band had anything to do with it.

You may not feel restriction until you get a fill, that's what they're for, the first six weeks are all for healing, so you're doing just AWESOME my friend! Congrats!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
