almost a month out..

Recommended Posts

I dont know the answer for sure, Im also about a month out. But I have read that many have problems with Pasta and soft breads, so I figure that's because they are sticky and goey when chewed and mixed with saliva. These types of foods most likely glom back together in the stomach increasing the overall size of the amout that tries to pass through the port. *shrugs*

Others may say they have no problems with it, though. I'll be curious to see what everyone has to say as well.

Once you're back on a normal diet, its Ok to eat anything as long as it goes down without problems. The only reason bread and rice are mentioned so often is becuase they are common problem foods, not because they're inherently evil and must be avoided by everyone.

My sister who was banded a year ago cannot eat certain foods and rice is one of them. It seems like it is an individual thing how one person can not tolerate something and another can.

I have no problems with rice, I love it many ways.

However bread seems like it goes down really slowly so I stay away from it.

Lauren,

I was banded 1/16 - so I'm 3 wks in. I can eat rice - the most I've had is about 1/3 cup at a time; I have also had bread - about 1/2 slice. I've eaten the rice in Soups and bread as a 'sandwich'. The bread is definately more filling but not where i've felt sick.

I think bread/rice are a very individual thing. If you haven't had a fill and feel like you are eating as you were pre-banding - I would suggest start trying to eat small amount and see how you do.

BTW - I am eating pizza (picking the top off) - so far so good. Good luck with rice!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
