My first day out of the hospital.

Recommended Posts

This is my first night at home, and I am having a little trouble. I am wearing the girdle, and I am a little short of breath. But only if I sit a certain way.

I am on a liquid/jello diet, and I am having trouble determining when I am full because I am still trying to get the anesthesia out of my body so I'm dizzy. I am taking it slow though, so I haven't thrown up.

Also, I am a side sleeper and I cannot lay on my side due to the surgery and can't seem to get comfortable.

I just need some tips, words of encouragement and I want to know the pain will end!!!

Hello Cait,

Don't worry the pain will get better trust me on that. I too am a side sleeper. I found that if you sleep with a few pillows it will help you sleep better. I found that the anesthesia took 4 days to get out of my system.

If the pain gets to bad use ice packs they will help and something warm to drink did help me.

I just want to say hang in there you will be just fine.

Stay well stay happy and most of all baby steps.

Mary

I got out my pregnancy pillow to wrap around my stomach for support. I could not tell if I was full either my first couple days home, just relax and sip through out the day so you do not get dehydrated. It will get better in a couple days. It took until 3 days post op for me to start to feel better.

I had my surgery yesterday, so last nite was my first nite home too. I'm not in nearly as much pain as I was expecting. I slep on my side a lot of the nite, with a pillow around my tummy. I slept fairly well like that.

Hi Cait,

Congratulations on your surgery. I was banded one week ago. I too was in considerable pain the second day after surgery. More painful than I anticipated it to be. Mostly due to the amound of gas that I had in my stomach. That took a couple of days to work it's way out. Due to the swelling, I didn't feel like eating either.

I was able to start sleeping on my side at about the 4th night.

Now, 1 week later, I have no pain whatsoever. I've just started the mushies stage today (never thought I would like yogurt as much as I did this moring). I feel like I am almost back to normal

So...hang in there. You'll be feeling better in no time and you'll look back and be amazed that you healed as quickly as you did. This is only temporary.

Good luck

I had a lot of Popsicles and juice and broth the first week. Used a heating pad for the shoulder pain, took my pain Meds, used mylanta chewables for the gas, and don't drink from a straw, makes the gas worse, learned that the hard way. it will get better though. just be patient. good luck to you and walk around.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
