Got my 1st lap Band fill!

Recommended Posts

I got my band June 27th, 3 weeks later an appendectomy, so am finally feeling 'healed',,(still sore at port sight) noticed this week I can eat pretty much anything. I am suppose to be on 'mushies', but I knew if I stayed there I would certainly overeat,,,I wanted volume. I started eating salad (Dr's permission) did well,,could tolerate an awful lot though.

Decided to call for a fill, I had been hoping to be 1 of those people who could get by without one for awhile because my port sight is still painful to touch. My doc was letting me decide when, especially since I had the 2nd abdominal surgery. Got an appt for today.

Well, suffice to say I had a terrible night with food last night. My son went to a party, brought home pizza, Cookies, cupcakes, I knew I had high tolerance, so next thing I know I was all up in it...nothing anyone could say could be worse than what I've said to myself. But today is a new day,,,Last night made it obvious I needed this fill. I had no nausea or vomiting, went down just like it used too,,

SO! Today I berated myself all day,,almost didn't get the fill,,besides feeling like I didn't deserve it, I was scared of the pain. Also, I've never had 'stuck' episodes or vomiting,,and like everyone, am terrified.

Well,,for those of you that feel that way,,GO! It didn't hurt (they numbed it)..and I feel like my 'fight' is back! I'm starting slow,,3 cc in an 11 cc realize band..I am tolerating fluids well...I have to do 48 h of fluids,,which, although I dread it,,will help me stabilize mentally.

But I really just want to say,,,I think we all have weak moments, obviously,,that's what brought us here,,but the band doesn't let us just 'give up'..1 night like last night, and in the old days I was 'off my diet',,',give up' mode kicks in,,,and I would gain back all I lost.

But here I am,,back after 1 bad episode,,,and I just want to thank everyone for the support and encouragement I read everyday on here. You are all an inspiration and when I feel alone in this journey it is great to have all of you to read about..thank you all.

And I lost 6 more pounds! Down 25 lbs!

Good on you Darlene. It's not about how many times you fall over but how many times you pick yourself up and get going again. I'm terrified of falling over on this journey which is why I keep coming back to these forums to keep me motivated and remind myself that I'm not on this journey alone.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
