Hi ev1, I went to my seminar thurs and my consultation is tues. My bmi is 44.6 and I have high blood pressure. I had previously tried wt loss clinics only to have gain the weight back. Tired of being unhealthy and obese. Question: How long does it take for insurance approval? and what are the requirements if anyone knows. I'm ready to get this show on the road. Looing forward to being thin again. Thanks. :)

I have UHC. The only requirements was a 5 year history of your weight and using a Center of Excellence doctor. They can refer you to one. My surgeon had more requirements. UHC will assign you a case worker and eventually a case nurse. They are very helpful and can answer all your questions. Once I met all my surgeons requirements, it only took a few days for "the approval call".

I have found that all uhc plans are different. A lot of it depends on the plan your employer selected. I had to have 6 mos supervised diet, however I had 6 mos of WW records which they accepted. My request for surgery was submitted on a friday afternoon and by tuesday morning I was approved. Good luck to you!

You should be able to look at YOUR coverage online. Most providers have their policies available. You put in your member # and can see exactly what their requirements are for your policy. That is where I started. I don't have UHC. But they do have a website:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
