So I had my 2nd fill @ the end of June & since then I have been vomiting a lot.... Like daily... I have found I only have a small window of time I can eat solid food, it has to be @ least 3 to 4 hrs after I wake up, & even when I can eat solids it's slow moving. & on top of it all my weight loss has slowed down.

For lunch I couldn't keep ne thing down but for dinner I ate a 5 oz chicken breast, half a small salad, & a few fries.

My big ? is for people who have had unfil's... Did it hamper your weight loss? I'm scared I'll get some taken out & I'll be hungry & gain weight.

Sometimes I feel like I paid 20,000$ to become a bulemic/anorexic :(

I don't necessarily think that your too tight but its all how you feel. It is normal to not be that capable of too much solid in the morning. That is why so many people drink Protein shakes but this is not always the case. Some can eat because they have lighter fills. Usually if you are at your sweet spot you are satisfied with less. I can get stuck very easy especially between Breakfast and lunch. I have about 8cc in an 11cc band. I have been banded for 18 months and have lost 108lbs. Breakfast usually for me is a Protein shake/smoothie/yogurt/oatmeal. I haven't had eggs in a long time because they are too much in the morning.

For example yesterday;

I had a half cup of yogurt and a piece of granola about 9ish. It might have had a bite or two of fruit in it

lunch was at a turkish rest...so maybe 3 or 4 bites of meat, Soup and a pinch of salad...all that fit on a small saucer. I ate too big of a chunk (pencil eraser size is what you are supposed to) and got a minor stuck. Stucks dont really bother me, its quick.

dinner I went to California pizza Kitchen with coworkers and had fish tacos....they are small and healthy and was able to eat the contents of both and a small cup of tortilla Soup and 3 bites of tiramasu. I was actually surprised over how much I thought but it was pretty healthy and still was less on the scale this morning.

This saying....I am pretty restricted until dinner which according to dr is normal..the band loosens up by evening. I think the chicken and half salad was about right.. If you could eat that without chucking, then you arent too tight. The fries are starchy and dense on the other hand and can cause sticking but since you ate them later in the evening, you had a better chance. That is why many bandsters eat light, healthy options by day(I choose stuff that is healthy that wont get stuck) and then eat a even more solid dinner.

Thanks for sharing. I am 11 days post-op, still on full liquid. I am very anxious to see how all of this will work. There is such an unknown right now, your post was very helpful.

I've had one small unfill about a year ago and it did not hinder my weight loss. I did feel a tiny bit hungrier for a few days, but it wasn't extreme. I pushed past it with extra Water and some cheese sticks. You do NOT want to be vomiting daily.. that's way too much. you are risking band slippage with that much refunding of food. If you get a slipped band you're looking at the removal of all Fluid and even possibly more surgery. :(

Please call your and make an appt to go in and discuss your problems. They may be able to help you without an unfill. And if you should need an unfill, if your last fill was, for example, 1cc, they might be able to take out 1/2 cc and you'll still have good appetite control, but no refunding. :)

Some suggestions to get you through until you see the doc:

Try drinking something warm first thing in the morning.. coffee, tea, even warm Water with lemon. Warmth tends to loosen the band and makes things easier to go down. A few bandsters find that the opposite is true for them, that cold works better. In any case, prime the pump with some liquid before trying to eat.

I find that 1/2 cup greek yogurt with fresh or frozen blueberries and a packet of stevia works well for breakfast for me. It's soft enough that it can get past my tight morning band, but solid enough to keep me full a while. Other people like to do Liquid Protein. Try to find something that you can eat within an hour or two of getting up. Most people lose weight better if they eat breakfast. Steelcut oatmeal is another breakfast that might work for you.

When you eat lunch or dinner, cut your Protein into tiny bites, about the size of an english pea. Chew thoroughly until mush. Try using some sort of "food lube", BBQ Sauce, ketchup, greek yogurt, gravy.. whatever appeals to you. Sure these things have some extra calories, but you won't be using all that much. I find a tablespoon or two is sufficient.

Put your fork down between bites. Don't read or watch TV while eating. Use a minute timer to time between bites. Do whatever you can to slow down.

5oz of chicken is beyond what my doctor recommends, we are supposed to keep to 3oz (maybe 4) of protein per meal. However, if that was all you were able to eat all day .. I certainly understand wanting more. And I know every doctor and patient are different.

If you can't get the daily vomiting under control, you must see your surgeon to get some help.

Best of luck to you.

My thoughts...if you are vomiting daily, but following bandster rules of small bites, chewing well, eating slowly, and all that..then you are too tight. Eating should not be a painful experience. I was too tight once. I could barely get yogurt down. I got stuck on mashed potatoes and a cheese stick. So, after a week of that I went back in. I had half the fill amount I'd had put in taken out. It was immediate relief. My weight loss was not hindered at all. I was able to eat a wider variety of foods than just sliders. What made my decision was trying to get a cheese stick unstuck at the Las Vegas Speedway in a very busy public toilet while missing the drag races. The cheese seemed to form a very tight plug and did not want to come out. Yeah, good times!

A month later when everything had calmed down, I was able to go back and have another fill that was double the amount I'd had removed. I stayed at that fill level for about a year, I think.

Vomiting puts us at risk of a slip, so we should do our best to minimize it. If that means a slight unfill, get a slight unfill. For me, it is a simple solution.

I to got a fill the end of July, and for the first time I am experiencing sliming occasionally. So I switched to warm Tea, or cup of Soup to open me up in the morning. This to is new to me. I use to eat a egg, and some Turkey Bacon for Breakfast with NO ! problem. Now ! ! ! I wouldn't even give that a thought.

Once I open up, and say I want lunch, I might have some soup, and tuna salad. But by about dinner time, I am good...

Then we start all over again the next day.

I think once all the swelling will go down, and some weight loss is accomplished, That it might loosen up a little.

I think it will be a long time before I get filled again, because I think I'm where I should be.

I never even slimed before? Well I do now... so I have to learn to stay with warm fluids for a while.

You're too tight.

A slight unfill can be the difference between being too full and causing damage and being in your green zone.

Go get half of what you had put in June removed, ask them to do a barium swallow under fluoroscopy to make sure you haven't slipped your band, caused swelling, or other complications.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
