I am not of your faith so I won't be fasting ... but I am thinking that you will have FANTASTIC weight loss for the month of August!

All the best to you on your journey.

Good luck!!! I am not fasting, but I'm just curious, can you still drink Water during the day? Have a good holiday month!

Thanks.

Nope, no Water as well from dawn till sunset :)

Thanks very much for the compliment. I am just about to complete a 2 month stint of working 13 hour days Mon-Fri and 6 hour days Sat & Sun. I needed extra money because I son is headed off to college in another state (after a last minute change from going to school an hour's drive away! Kids ... gotta love'em LOL). But in about a week it will be all about me, and I plan to kick my weight loss into high gear. I can hardly wait!

My hairdresser fasts for Ramadan AND she works out (she's about a size 2 for as long as I've known her - 10+ years). She always amazes me. She's a bit of a health guru.

Maybe you will lose weight this time because you will eat differently after sundown and you will possibly drink more Water (because of the importance of staying hydrated when you have the band). Keep us posted on your progress. We are here to support you.

Woah! That's commitment, and faith! No Water during the day, that will be tough eating your meal and then getting in your fluids at least an hour before and after eating. Maybe you should start planning when your going to start drinking your water and your meals. Like will you quickly chug say 30 oz of water right after sundown, and then wait 1/2 or 1 hour and have a meal? Then, wait an hour after your meal, and drink the other 30 oz of water? I'm just wondering if maybe you'll have to adjust your bedtime! And, if you'll be drinking all your fluids right before bedtime, you'll probably be getting less sleep anyways since you'll be hitting the potty!! You're definitely going to loose a ton!

I haven't posted here for a while but thanks for adding me as a friend, Nouzi. :0)

I won't be fasting this year because I will be 8 months pregnant during Ramadan and I am still having a lot of problems with morning sickness.

I have fasted in the past during Ramadan since being banded but it was really rough for me because my band was tightly closed. I ended up dehydrated because of a lack of Water and found that after not eating and drinking all day, by the time I was ready to break the fast I could hardly get anything down. For me, the only way to have a successful fast is to have my band partially emptied during Ramadan. However, if you are relatively new to banding and your band is not at restriction yet, it might not be a problem at all. The hardest part is to keep getting the Water in with the eating restrictions since you also need to sleep at night :0).

Good luck. I am soo excited for Ramadan to start. Even if I can't fast this year, I still love this time with my family and friends and can't wait for it to begin. :0)

You guys are great! rolleyes.gif Thank u all for the support...

Well Im newly banded, I didnt even get a fill yet, but will have my 1st during the month... from what I read here the 1st fill is usually not that tight... so am hoping everything wd be alright smile.gif

Congrats Heather on ur baby biggrin.gif yeah I know ur not supposed to fast, not good for u or the baby.... Im so excited too... everything around here has the Ramadan mood already, we r all getting ready...

The 1 thing Im worried about that we r invited A LOT by family and friends for Iftar, which is amazing, but Im worried about what I will be able to eat at their tables unsure.gif I dnt like to make a big fuss about not eating this and that, just thinking I can sit down have the soup(which is always part of the meal) and then have smthing else a few hours later when I get home or sth :)

Need to do a lot of work to stay hydrated ... specially tht the weather now is around 100 blink.gif

Will keep u wonderful guys updated... just wish me luck :)

Does your family and friends know about the band? If so, it won't be so hard. If they don't it is a little odd at Iftars not to eat much or take that first huuugggeee drink of Water. :0)

I wish you the best of luck.

I dont fast for religious reasons and I've never gone without any Water for 24 hours but I have fasted for 2 days at a time several times in the last year for surgical reasons as well as doing bowel preps at the same time. I dont find fasting that hard when there's a reason to do it. Its not like you'll never eat again. But you can feel a bit lousy if you get dehydrated, which bowel preps do tend to do to you.

My biggest tip is not for the actual fast, I mean, what's to do, just not eat, right? There's no rocket science to that. But with a band be VERY gentle with your band for several days after the fast. I find I'm much tighter afterwards and cannot manage a big post fast meal. I'd gone almost two days with no food, done a very aggressive bowel prep for a colonoscopy and all I could manage was 1/4 of a sandwich and half the cup of tea they gave me in recovery. Slide back into eating as if you're on a diet, three very small meals a day kind of thing. I find over about a week, my band normalises again. Due to its tightness, i dont find this difficult, I'm really not interested in food that much for several days after a big clean out.

hey wonderful ppl :)

so I went to my doctor's appointment today and turns out that I wont get a fill until early September huh.gif so I wont have any fill during Ramadan, so far I dont have any restrictions, so I will be able to eat properly at night :)

however Im worried about the weight loss... since I started eating mushies I didnt lose any weight, so I dont know how it would be like after I more month of eating solid food n everything... I know Im not supposed to worry about that till I get a fill, but u know its a bit demotivating...

I'll start fasting tomorrow, and will keep u guys updated on how it goes...

hey nouzi!

i am fasting too and it's my first ramadan with the band. how are you doing this year? any tips?

i haven't lost any weight :( i thought i would lose so much. i eat ok portions for iftar ( Soup and 1/2 cup of food) and more before i sleep (1.5 to 2 cups), but even though i don't have a sweet tooth in ramadan all i do is think of and crave sweets. sugary drinks like appricot juice which is a very typical ramadan drink here. do you have those cravings? any luck with curbing them?

how r u doing with Water? can you squeeze in enough and still eat in those little hours we have?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
