Anyone Else have to inject Lovenox?

Recommended Posts

I was just curious...I had to give myself 7 days of Lovenox injections into my tummy after surgery. (Yes I had to give myself a shot for 7 days!) The surgeons at my office require all patients to get Lovenox after surgery to prevent blood clots. Of course they didn't tell us about it until a week before the surgery!

Did anyone else do this?

By the way...it was really easy and didnt hurt. Just kind of freaky sticking a needle in your stomach and injecting the Fluid. Luckily I had a lot of extra padding!:P

I had to do the same thing. Only I had to do it for 14 days. I tried to give them to myself and couldnt. Luckily my husband was willing to jab me in the stomach with a tiny sharp needle. Actually I think he enjoyed it...lol The only problem I had is that I bruised really easily. Actually I am still bruising easily, and I had my surgery April 5th. My doctor said when I go in for my next fill if I am still bruising he wants to run tests to see why. He said it shouldnt last longer than 8 wks. Congrats on your surgery!! :)

My husband is being banded Wednesday and myself sometime next month and our surgeon reguires 10 days of the Lovenox injections as well. 1 injection the night before surgery and one a night for 9 nights following. I believe the like the element of surprise because no one mentioned this in the first 9 months of our pre surgery process, not that it would have mattered much, but it still would have been nice to know. I'm fine with giving my hubby the injection  but no so much with injecting myself (LOL) thinking he may have to give me mine.

Was a little bit of a surprise to me also, they just kind of threw that in when I went to a pre-op meeting handed us something I thought was a door prize and it was instructions and a little red bio container...wth????? of course my insurance was only going to pay a small portion which was going to make my out of pocket 170.00 but I filled out an assistance program application with the drug company and it helped ALOT! as far as giving the shots ....hummmm I am a phlebotomist and stick people alllllllllllllllllllllllllll day long but.....its not the same lol

I also had to inject lovenox. It was painless really. The needle is very small and injected into the fat near the belly button. The nurse told me not to rub the area after the shot to prevent bruising. I was nervous the first time, but there was really nothing to it.

I had to do it for 4 weeks. I had pulmonary embolism 4 years ago and after I came out of the hospital I had to inject myself for about 3 more months. You get used to it. Imagine people that take insulin shots.

I had 2 Pulmonary embolisms after my surgery for kidney stones. I had an allergic reaction to the lovenox though. I took cumadin for 6 months. Wonder what they'll have me do this time.

Yep ! I was on it too. It's good stuff I think. Because I had my knees replaced after I lost weight, and my Orthopedic Surgeon gave me Lovenox for each separate knee surgery.

No problems at all..

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
