4 Years & Going Strongs

Recommended Posts

Wow!

4 years have almost gone since I was lap-banded in July of 2007. Its crazy how time flies when your having so much fun in your new body. Here's a little recap about the situation before I was banded. I was diagnosed with PCOS and could not loose weight due to the amount of medication they put me on to control the symptoms. Frustrated I found my surgeon Dr. Spivak in Houston and scheduled my surgery. July 20, 2007 will be a day that I cherish for the rest of my life. It's a day that I was kind of "born" into the person I have always been and was afraid to show it due to the weight I was under. As I sit here writing my comments about completing 4 years post-surgery I'm almost crying, because of my accomplishment. It's sad to see another family member who had the same surgery a couple of years before I had mine abuse the lap-band and not reach a healthy weight. I'm currently 4 years out and almost done with college, two more semesters to go, and loving the things I can do. I've had bumps and bruises along the way, and it's not easy. Especially when you get your first food stuck and don't know what to do (peaches). I've learned that by doing lap-band surgery, I take pride in the things that I've accomplished and the possibilities the future has in store for me. People ask "Would you take the lap-band out" and my response is "No". I don't want to go back to the before where I struggled to be myself.

If you would like to add me as a friend please, don't hesitate. I would love to share my ups and down's on having a lap-band and the adjustments that I've made to become 4 years post-op.

Thanks for allowing me to share a little about my success story.

4 years Out & Still Going Strong!!! :D

Congratulations on your wonderful success! I love going to the success story forum once in a while to see someones post who has reached their goal and are loving life! I'm almost 6 months out and have really learned alot about myself in the journey so far. I was a slow loser before the band and I'm still a slow loser. I guess I have an efficient metabolism even though it makes me mad! I've lost 30 lbs which isn't a ton but I look and feel so much better. My lab numbers have improved as well. I'm doing Zumba 3 times a week which I never thought I could accomplish. I have learned that the only way I'm going to lose weight successfully and keep it off is going to be based on the effort I am willing to put in. The band helps me eat less but it doesn't keep me from grazing or making poor food choices. Again, congratulations on your success. Keep posting from time to time to keep others motivated!

Have an awesome summer!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
