How much do you eat in one sitting?

Recommended Posts

Im getting my lap band in a couple of weeks. I've gone through the whole process and my surgeon and nutritionist both say I should eventually be eating 1-1 1/2 cups of food per meal, three times a day. But now I'm laying here in bed reading my lap band informational booklet and it says "the lap band creates a small stomach pouch that can hold only about 1/4 cup of food. If you try to eat more than this at one time, you may become nauseated. You may also vomit. If you routinely eat too much, the small stomach pouch may stretch".

So what is it? 1-1 1/2 cups of food or 1/4 cup?

1 1/2 sounds about right; I sometimes eat more than that. 1/4 cup is generally for those people with extremely tight bands.

Now that Im @ my sweet spot I can only eat about a cup to cup & a half. It takes me about 20 to 30 min to eat also. I also can't eat solid food until I have been up for a few hrs, I am always tight when I first get up.

1 - 1 1/2 cups sounds about right. Sometimes a bit less depending on what I'm eating and whether or not I'm feeling tight.

I've been banded about 10 days and I can only eat up to 6oz. at a time, max. But even with a fill, I'd be hungry if i could only eat 2oz. three times a day. I'm not sure how you'd get your nutrients in.

Basically, I have the same brochure - mine says when you first get surgery, you can eat about 1/2 cup max. Then your pouch will slowly stretch to hold about a cup. I'm with the 1-1 1/2 cup club.

I'm 10 days post-op and I am still on creamy liquids almost mushies and I can eat or drink about 1 cup. Right after surgery for the first 5 or 6 days it was less than that. I can drink about 12 oz of Water though in like 45 minutes. I can take pretty good drinks. I've been wondering about the whole size of eating thing as well and wondering if I'm intaking more than others who are 10 days post-op.

RHG - I also have a slight fill, which may account for my inability to eat as much as you right now. But again, it goes back to "everyone's different" - and these bands certainly have their own personality.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
