Soft Protein Stage

I love my surgeon and have followed his "rules" no matter what!! I did a clear liquid diet with protein shakes for two weeks prior to surgery with the day before being just jello and broth. I did clear liquids for 3 days post and full liquids the next week. His full liquid food list does not include the cream of wheat, oatmeal, or some other items people have spoken about. When I went to my first post op appointment this week he put me on "soft proteins". This includes tuna, flaky fish, cottage cheese, tofu, and canned chicken. That's it; of course this is added to the liquid items. My question is- why do you think he is waiting 4 weeks to add veggies, fruit and grains? After that phase I'll go to complete solids. My guess is that he's trying to get me used to eating PROTEIN!!! I left his office before I really looked at my list carefully. I was just so excited to get Tilapia!!

Hello !

thats how mine was also, i was so jealous to see others eating things that were not on my list. BUT still to this day i follow my Dr guidlines and have been successfull. I actully just started to make a protein shake and used soy milk, i have see others use that and thought GOOD IDEA ~~ but went for a fill yesterday and told about my new shake, and was told no good, to many calories =( so back to Dr;s orders.

But i do know how u feel, keep up the good work and stick to what your DR says, not what others are doing =)

they do have a reason for the way the do things, i bet u are right about ur thinking.

Count your blessings. My surgeon's post op diet was 2 weeks of clear liquids followed by 2 weeks of full liquids. After that 4 weeks I was required to attend a nutrition class and then could slowly reintroduce solid food. Plus he won't do the first fill until 8 weeks!
