a few questions before surgery

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I've had the seminar, internal medicine intake, nutrition intake, and behavioral medicine intake. Now I am starting the weekly group meetings. I was told that I will have a follow up with the psychologist after the groups before they schedule me to meet with the surgeon. For those of you who have had the surgery or those of you who have your surgery date scheduled, how long before you had the surgery scheduled, like from the time you had your intakes to the time you had surgery? I asked everyone I met with if I will likely have the surgery by the end of this year and they all said yes. The nutritionist said not by the end of the summer but definitely by the end of the year. The focus now is to lose as much weight as I can before surgery. I have lost 9 pounds so far but I was told I'm not required to lose a certain amount. I just wanna get it over with. I am so sick of being this heavy!

I had my initial visit 5/15/08 and my surgery 6/10/08. In between I had psych eval and had to get a letter from my PCP.

Wow, only a month? That's awesome!

I had a 6 month supervised diet required by my insurance. Once that was over my paperwork was approved and my surgery was scheduled within 2 weeks.

I went to my seminar March 2011.........I did all of the intakes in April and May and had surgery June 22nd. Had my schedule allowed I would have completed all of my intakes in April and had surgery in May.

My surgery would have been 3month from the time of consult if I had'nt had another health issue. My doctor did how ever require me to loose 34 pounds which I did. If it took one longer than 3 months to loose the weight that would have affected the surgery date.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
