Im home and banded!

Recommended Posts

Well im home and everything went great. I have to admit that when I first woke up I thought what the heck did I do. But I feel a lot better now. I am actually hungry. The only thing I have now is painfull burps. But I can handle that. I will be so happy next week when I can move to mushie foods. I know there were a couple people having this surgey on the same day that I did. If your out there let me know how your doing. I hope good. Jennifer B.:clap2:

Hi, Jennifer~ Congratulations! Glad it went well for you and that things are going OK. I had mine on the 24th...what day was yours done? I had Dr. Peter O'Brien in Sioux Falls, SD, which is about 3 hours from where I live. They found a hiatal hernia when they got in there, so they repaired that, too, as well as some adhesions from an old gall bladder surgery. So it took about 1 1/2 hours total. I'm going fine now, but stiff and sore. Better than I expected...how about you? The shoulder pain is there but not unbearable. Let's compare notes~

I was just banded yesterday 1/25/06. So far all is great, no nausea or burps or anything just a bit sore. Slept great (of couse liquid Vicodin helped!) but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to sleep on my belly & I can. Just careful turning. And stairs to my bedroom have been no problem. Best wishes to you.

I was banded on January 24 here in NJ. Day 1 was not pleasant. I had tons of gas and nausea and pain. The nausea really upset because the last words the surgeon had for me was 'your job the next month is to make sure that you don't throw up'. Today (day 2) seems a bit better. I stopped taking the pain meds and hope that that will ease the nausea.

I have a question about incision care. I think the nurse at the hospital told me to take off the bandages. I did after I showered. Underneath are the little steri strips. I bandaged them up again. Should they be bandaged? I am afraid to take a shower with the little steri strips, afraid that I will harm them or make them come off too early.

Thanks!

My surgeon told me to leave them uncovered after I shower. Said they heal better that way than if they are covered. I just had to cover the largest one while showering and the others were not an issue...

Jennifer - congrats on making it to bandland! See - you're already up and posting! Good sign. Best of luck!

WannaBeHealthy - I had horrid gas as well and it lasted about 2 weeks - I'm just now getting over it. Pain in my shoulder and collar bone from the gas. I'm so glad that's going away now - hang in there! Only 1 of my surgi strips has come off (and like I said - it's 2 weeks later). The ones over the port incision are still stuck like chuck and I wonder if they'll ever come off! I was told to take the bandage off and leave the surgi strips alone and they would fall off.... one down and 4 to go! The one just fell off this morning and the skin / little scar there is kind of tender - I liked it better when the strip was on :-).

I also had mine on the 24th. I feel ok but I am really hungry. I have been drinking a lot of warm sweet tea but nothing is helping my hunger. I also took off my bandages and showered. My Dr. (Dr. Fusco in Melbourne Fl) said it was ok to take them off. And so far so good. I will just be happy to eat some mushies next week. I hope your feeling good and keep me informed on your progress ok. Take car. Jennifer B.:)

I was also banded the 24th (Dr Aceves/Mexicali)....so far I feel pretty good. Soreness in my abdomen and tightness in my chest (I swear I can feel the band around my stomach!). I can't really tell if I'm hungry - is it in my head or really hungry? I'm drinking Isopure which is a clear Liquid Protein - that seems to help. Congrats to all my fellow 24th bandsters - our first step in an exciting journey!

congratulations Jennifer! What is so great to me (being that I am going to be banded sometime after 4/1/06) is those who are able to come home from the surgery and just 4 or 5 hours later go online and post they are home and doing well! Another plus I am thinking of is that I have never thrown up in my life...really! I do get nauseated with viruses etc. and after my laparoscopic tubal ligation but that is because they fed me Breakfast AND lunch as soon as I woke up....ugggh! I was really sick but didn't throw up and I have a good gag reflex too...can't brush my tongue at all when I brush my teeth!

Thanks all for your words of advice. Day 3 (banded on the 24th) and I feel so much better. Truthfully, the last two days were dreadful! THe gas was causing me such bad pain. The nausea was scaring me. and last night, the diarhea set in. Kept me up most of the night! It seems like my 'plumbing' is getting accustomed to its new attachment! Today I am starting to feel like my old self, except for the feeling that someone is sitting on my chest.

I've learned that if I walk around and move my arms, I can get my body to belch in unbelievable waves! and today, I am cautiously adding skim mik and Protein to my liquid diet.

I had hoped to breeze through this but it's been a rough one.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
