Does using smaller utensils and plates help?

The week before surgery I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and bought little demitasse spoons and cocktail forks.. 4 of each. I have used them at home when it's just my husband and I, but when we have company over, or when we go out to eat, I use regular utensils and make an effort to eat slow, small bites. You have to take that many more bites to finish a meal, and for me, it is a constant reminder to take smaller bites. I didn't change my plate size. It has definitely helped me. laugh.gif

I have to add this..... in the beginning I found the idea of eating off small plates and using tiny spoons, eating tiny baby sandwiches, and playing with the idea so much fun that it REALLY helped me keep on track with portions.... I had stopped thinking about it and having fun with it recently and realized that I slowly started going back up again to larger and larger plates (stopped losing weight and feeling discouraged)... Thanks to these posts, I think I'll start having fun with it again. :rolleyes:

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
