I was banded on June 22, 2011. The only pain that I have had is the shoulder/chest pain from the gas. It was so bad I wanted to cut my arm off. I called the doctor and they told me to take liquid motrin and that helped. Today, June 25, I have not taken any pain medication. I'm pretty tired of the liquid diet already, and I have 9 days left of this! I feel hungry and wish I could eat. The first couple of days after banding I had no discomfort at all. Today, however, I feel pressure in my stomach, it is like a side ache. I'm guessing it is because I'm drinking too fast? Does anyone have any ideas on how to vary the liquid diet? I have the drinks I purchased at my doctors office, VHP in vanilla, chocolate and a cream of chicken Soup. I also have the Slim Fast Low Carb drinks in chocolate. They all taste good, I'm just tired of them already.....I sometimes wonder what I have done to myself....but I must win this battle. I'm 64, almost 65, and I want the rest of my life to be healthier and have the ability to do more things that my weight has prevented me from doing. I'm afraid I'm going to fail. A lot of emotions right now.....is this normal?

Thanks for your post. I feel exactly the way you do. I wonder what I have done as well. My surgery was on June 20th, 2011 and I feel pretty good today. No real pains to speak of (other than the occasional gas). My doctor has me on 2 weeks of Clear liquids. No slim fast, no cream Soups, etc. I am ready to have something more! My poor husband has caught my crankiness. He has always been a thin person and now he feels guilty eating what he needs to eat. I keep trying to remind myself that others have done this and are doing well then so can I.

Hang in there and I will watch for your posts in the forums.

Yay! This is my first post-op posting too! I had surgery yesterday morning around 9:30am. Still in the hospital. While I'm thankful that my gas pain has been minimal, I have a lot of pain at the port site when standing/walking. But all in all, everything went perfect. Doc said my liver was definitely down, so it was easy to maneuver around, etc. I have been amazed that 1oz. of Water has me feeling "full". Kinda crazy - never thought I'd feel that way. I'm sure it will change as the swelling subsides, but it's nice for now. My surgeon put some fill in my band, so I will have some restriction, I'd suspect.

Overall happy to have the surgery done and over with and super excited for the next phase of my life. :) Woo hoo!

i was banded on the 24th. Am having the same strange feelings in my chest. Also have about 2 inch cut on the upper part of my stomach. Had a henial hernia fixed at the same time. Not sure if that is what that is from. Doctor told my husband that everything went well. no explnation.

Was banded on thursday the 23, still hurting some. Strange feeling in chest I can't decide what it means. Is it gas or am I drinking too much too fast. It feels like a pressure on my chest but not a feeling I've had before. I've had shoulder surgery before and don't think it is gas but could be wrong

Okay, can we talk pain for a moment? Today I've had some pain that feels like a stitch in my side from running (which I can assure you I have not been doing). I chalked it up to gas pain, and by and large I've been expelling that pretty well.

But my port site is killing me! My port is lower down, the incision is right on my waist-band. And sweet baby Jesus does it hurt when I stand/walk. When I'm sitting up, reclining, on the toilet... none of that is too uncomfortable. But standing and walking is darn near unmanageable. I know the port was sewed tightly to the muscle wall, and I'm guessing that the pain is gravity pulling my belly down and stretching that muscle that's trying to heal. I'm using a compression wrap, which helps. It also helps when I hold the site while I'm walking. But I don't see a lot of people complaining about the port site much - just the gas. Can someone else please complain about their port site pain so I don't feel so lonely? :P

Have you mentioned this port site pain to your doctor? I have seen a few people here on the boards mentioning their ports being twisted or hard to find (?) when it came time to do a fill (which scares the bejeezus out of me!) My port is above my waistline (I know because I asked the doctor when I saw him on Friday).

I had a similar "stitch in the side" pain the other day. I attribute it to eating my first Soup too fast. Boy it tasted great but I paid for it for hours with the overstuffed feeling and the occasional side stitch. I vowed to slow down and control myself better. It makes a big difference. I feel so much better getting to eat the liquid food diet (rather than the Clear liquids.) I am not nearly so b----y now.

Check with the doctor...that sounds strange but maybe nothing to worry about.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
