Which Fill # Was it?

Recommended Posts

Which fill was your Ahhh ha moment - the moment that you thought "Now this is what I signed up for?" How long did it take post surgery to reach that point?

I had it for a few days after fill #2, until the swelling went down. I'd eat my food and then not even think about eating again until 4-5 hours later. Unfortunately it's gone now and I'm going for my 3rd fill this week.

After fill #1 (1.5 cc), I was in my green zone and I didn't even know it.

Because I didn't know what the green zone really was, and because I was expecting to need several fills before feeling that 'satiated feeling' (based on other people's experiences), I went for another fill of 1.0 cc and was too full. Had that 1.0 cc removed, and am between my green zone and needing another very tiny fill (0.25 - 0.50).

While I could probably use another tiny fill I know that isn't an option right now as I'm having gallbladder surgery this week.

However, even after that, if I realise that the band's goal isn't to give me restriction to the point of stopping me from eating then I don't actually need another fill.

The band's goal is to make you think twice about eating when you're not hungry and to help you eat a normal amount when you are hungry. Right now, I can do that - if I make the effort. I can still overeat if I want - but even those who are over filled can overeat on their sliders.

So instead of getting another fill after surgery I'm going to wait and keep my food measured and logged so, as I lose weight and my band gets looser and I need another fill, I'll still be in control and the fill will just help dampen my appetite without affecting my ability to eat.

Like Rachel said, a fill should keep you satiated for 4-5 hours between meals. It shouldn't physically hinder you from eating 1.5-2 cups of food at a meal. I believe that's where many people

I think I am at my sweet spot. I have had 4 fills, totaling 5 cc's in a 10 cc band. I had my surgery 9/22/10. I have lost 80 lbs. This last fill was only .2, my dr. felt I didn't need it, but I was starving at night. Now I don't feel hungry at all. I have to really make myself eat. And when I do it will last 4-5 hours. I am now wondering how long this will last, but enjoying it a lot.

It took 5 fills, 8 months, and 10cc in a 14cc band, but I get it now. I am loosing 2-3lbs a week, not hungry between meals and I physcially get ill if I try to eat to much. This is what I signed up for. Stanley (the name for my band, because it is a 'tool') are FINALLY seeing eye to band!

Good luck, everyone!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
