TO THE LADIES THAT HAD A HYSTERECTOMY

Recommended Posts

i have a question thought i would see if someone might help. I had my vaginal hysterectomy 2 weeks ago i was left with just the ovaries. when i talked to my doc he had told me i had alot of adhesions, fibroids. he said he couldn't find my left ovary due to all the adhesions. i am confused by my pain right now. could it be from 1. more adhesions 2. i am still healing from my hysterectomy 3. i am having a mock like period and dont know cause i can't bleed? i am not sure if i am doing too much too soon ihave done laundry and dishes in to dish washer i know it says not to do too much bending but my hubby doesn't help much someone has to do something around here. let me know what you ladies are thinking why i am having pain it feels a little like aching pain. my doctor said that he wasn't sure but it was possible that my adhesions came from my lap band surgery

I had a vaginal hysterectomy leaving ovaries intact many years ago. At two weeks, you're still healing. The pain could be because you are ovulating or from adhesions plus mostly likely healing...........but I doubt that it's lap band related in any case. You are doing a lot at two weeks, and that very well could be the cause. I felt fine sitting around the house, went back to work at 2 weeks, and passed out cold shortly after walking in...........Relax and Heal and don't worry!

You are not supposed to do anything except the very minimum for the first 6 weeks. Your husband needs to do more. If he won't just leave the stuff to pile up and if he asks why show him the info on what can happen if you do it. There is an excellent site called hystersisters that has the answers to lots of your questions, it also has a couple of articles for the men. I have kept referring back to the site since my op 6 weeks ago and the advice has been excellent. It is also great to read other peoples experiences so that I know what i am experiencing is normal.

It is fairly normal to have some bleeding for a number of weeks after the op. However excessive bleeding could be caused by having done too much and could be a sign of possible complications. I had some bleeding at 3 weeks so went to see my GP. She checked me out and said I looked fine , that I had no signs of infection and that it could have been either from some left over endometriosis or a pulled internal stitch. She told me if it got worse or didn't stop by the Monday(saw her on Saturday) that I needed to go and see my gynae. It did stop so I didn't need to go back.

I have my postop app in a weeks time. Later than usual as my gynae has been on holiday.

You are definitely over doing. Most any kind of surgery or injury can leave scar tissue behind. When I had my hysterectomy, my insides were a mess and I ended up being in surgery for abt 5 hrs. All this was due to adhesions, which actually came from peritonitis, secondary to a ruptured appendix.

I know how you feel being the only one doing to housework. My husband helped me the first week and then I suppose I looked good on the outside, he thought I could get back to my old schedule. Needless to say we had a little talk.

Try to rest and heal and no lifting! You only get one chance to heal properly from this procedure.

You are not supposed to be bending or lifting anything over 5 pounds. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on the 9th because I had too many adhesions for her to safely do a vaginal hysterectomy. She did tell me that the adhesions are caused from the 3 laproscopic surgeries I have had in the last year.

ETA: I was told that the bending and lifting is because that even though you might be feeling good, your insides have lots of stitches. You are still healing in there. If I even think about bending over or lifting anything, it takes me all of 2 seconds to realize that was a move I don't want to do. I will ache for a hours afterwards.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
