It's wonderful he misses that tradition! There is no reason it cannot continue. It's not clear if all of you go out or just the two of you. If it is all of you, just order some Soup and then share something with some of the others. You'll be able to get plenty without them feeling deprived. I am sure some of the children cannot finish what they order, yes?

If just the two of you, get an appetizer and then share the entree. appetizers can be high in calories, but if eating out is a splurge, it can be a safer bet than a full entree. Many restaurants charge a split fee these days, but when I order an appetizer as my dinner, I use that plate for a bit of DH's Protein and all is well. We just share the entree and appetizer.

There is no reason you cannot go out to eat and enjoy yourself. It just takes adjusting your attitude. As Jack said, you don't need to give your life story to the servers. Although I did have one time when my band was too tight, I ordered a side of refried Beans and rice at our favorite Mexican restaurant, and I was unable to eat even a few bites. We go there often and the server expressed concern that I was unhappy with my order. So, I explained it to him. I took the leftovers home and ate on them for 3 days. Until I got an unfill.

Just because you have a band doesn't mean your family has to change all of its food related traditions!

Soup is considered food. Anything you'd get served in a cup, or ask for a straw with, is a drink.

I was surprised by MsAnn as well. I don't remember eating those items a week or two out.

As far as what to order, if your husband likes to share, one entree and one appetizer and you are golden. I eat about 1/4 of whatever we order, he eats the other 3/4. It works for us. I've been banded for nearly 2 years now. Lost 75 of the 88 I wanted to lose the first year. Haven't lost any since. But that's OK. I'm still nearly 20 pounds below where the dr thought I would be 3 years out.

I didn't have any problems with bread the first year -- now, I can't tolerate it. I have never been able to do eggs and chicken can sometimes create a problem.

I try not to drink with meals. I usually ask for a glass of ice. Drink whatever melts. Works for me.

In response to my eating at IHOP,,,,,My surgeon is different. First 4-7 days post-op is full liguids, When you fell a little hungry you try a soft food like scrambled egg. If that goes well, you go straight to meat (chewy). Everyone is always amazed how fast I went to chewy.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
