Fills by a different surgeon?

Recommended Posts

So what happens if you have your surgery and then at some point later on you move away from where you had surgery. Does this mean you have to only have adjustments and fills done by the surgeon and his staff that did your surgery. Or is it okay to find others If you relocate.

Thanks for reading and your response.

It's fine to find a new doctor. Just make sure you know their policies on charging for fills, and make sure you're comfortable with them!

I just found out my insurance is denying to pay for fills. Any suggestions? I had my surgery last December.

I am in a similar situation. Moved for a new job RIGHT after I had my Lap Band placed, and I found a doctor to accept me. My new job said I have to get insurance on my own and pays me a stipend for it- but I can't get approved because I have a pre-existing condition of the BAND. Rediculous. I am getting healthier, not increasing my risk!!! Anyways, I pay for my fills ($150) out of pocket... $100 is norm rate and $50 extra because he wasn't the surgeon that did the procedure. I am happy and once I get enough fills (I ask for 1cc at a time to minimze coming more often for smaller 0.5cc fills) I won't have to get them regularly anymore. Just need the sweet spot. I have had 2 1cc fills so far... lost 19lbs total: 6 lbs each month with fill. Good luck!!!

I just moved back home after going to school in CA for four years and had the HARDEST time finding a fill doctor. A lot of places were so rude and just flat out said no!! Most places wanted to charge me up to $500 for a visit, so ridiculous. Perhaps it's because I live in NYC and every office is just too busy. I had to look out of state and found a doctor who was very understanding. Good luck!

I use Fill Centers USA. They charge $300 for the first visit, then $145 for each subsequent visit, and their network is nationwide. They also have an annual plan where you just pay one fee for the year, and go as often as needed. I pay for mine out of my flex spending account. Both me and my wife have been very happy with the clinic in Saint Petersburg, Florida.

I'm glad to know that there is an alternative. I was banded in April 2011. I returned for a follow up visit with the doctor and each time I go there is an office FULL of patients. What's the use of having an appointment when 5 other people have the same appt. During my follow up visit I waited over an hour in the exam room before the Dr. got to me. This isn't counting the time I was in the waiting room. I learned after my first visit that he (Dr.) not only does bariatric surgery but other surgeries also. When I went back for my 1st fill, there were people actually standing, the office was so full.

I went back last week for my 2nd fill, same thing. My 3:20 appt. was over around 5:30. I felt I might be too tight because of symptoms I was having. I asked to come back. My appt. was at 2:30. At 3:00 the secretary came out and said the Dr. had to perform emergency surgery and wouldn't be back in the office until 4:30. 4:30 would probably be closer to 5:30. She said we could run errands and come back or sit and wait. Plus this means I've got to wait with what's probably a group coming in later. So once again there's a patient load packed to the ceiling.

I told them to cancel me and that I would call back since I needed to check my calendar.

I left the office bought fast food, fried chicken strips, fries and sweet tea. Ate it all. I guess I'm not too tight after all.

Guess you showed them!!!

My doctor only see lapband patients Monday afternoons and Thursday mornings. I always make my appointment for the first one of the day. That way he doesn't have time to fall behind.

Cind<FONT size=4>y C. Not really. I only defeated myself. I felt bad after I ate it. So actually they won. I have asked for the earliest appt. I'm supposed to have it when I return in Sept. 2011. It's at 2:30

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
