The "What you can't eat anymore" thread

Recommended Posts

So this is a thread for lists of things you just can't or won't eat anymore. I'll start.

Can't eat:

Flour tortillas

Hamburgers

Pasta

Rice

eggs

Won't eat:

Soda (I was a TOTAL Pepsi addict pre-band)

Any liquid with sugar in it - I refuse to "drink" my calories

candy, chocolate, cakes, anything considered "dessert"

Most bread (sometimes I can get a very thin slice of toasted Jewish rye down)

French Fries (because I love them too much and I'm afraid I'll binge)

Pre-band, I would come home from work after a long day, pop a loaf of frozen garlic-buttered french bread in the oven, and eat the entire loaf with 2 or 3 Pepsi's for dinner. Good grief I can't even IMAGINE doing that now! Just the thought literally makes me shudder.

How about you all?

I'm a year and a half out and still can't eat: Steak or bread.

I can eat thin crust pizza but usually can't even finish (1) whole piece.

I can eat just about everything except dried apricots. Dry meat such as grilled chops also give me problems.

I don't think there is anything I can't eat.

Have been afraid to eat bread, rice or any starch thats white.

I am careful with steak, chicken and pork.

Love the morning Protein shakes.

I had my first fill on Monday afternoon and the rest of this week I thought "Well that didin't do any good, as my scale was stuck and I hadn't had any problems with eating" Weighed this morning and was down 3 pounds.

Have some faith and chill out Terri!!!!!!

Sometimes I can't figure out if it's the food that's causing me problems, or me eating too fast or not chewing well enough, because I'm still struggling with not eating like a ravenous pig.

Plus, my fills have been keeping me on my toes. This last one took me near a week before I could eat solids - about half of everything was coming up. But now, 2? weeks out from that fill, I can eat fine again, if not too well.

With all that said, I guess my answer is: BEATS ME! ;)

(ETA: I have only taken the rare sip or two of my husband's pop since surgery)

The only thing that consistently gives me problems is chicken breast meat. Everthing else is hit and miss.

So far I haven't found anything that I *can't* eat. I don't know if it helps or hurts, but I can feel when everything I eat or drink passes through the band. So I'm always so aware of it... but I've tried bites here and there of pretty much everything, and haven't had a problem yet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
