I'll be moving on from full liquids to soft foods this Friday. YAY! And I was wondering what all I can eat, and also any good ideas for recipes. The diet packet I have shows examples and lists of what to eat and not to eat, but it doesn't really have a whole lot of options. I know the obvious things I shouldn't eat, but I want to know if other stuff is okay. Like lean ground beef, spinach, other low fat cheese besides cottage and ricotta, whole grain Pasta, salsa... I want to do this diet right but also still eat something that tastes good. Any ideas and suggestions would be very much appreciated!

I've been putting together a list of mushy recipies for after surgery. Some really yummy (or they sound super yummy because I'm on clear liquids) are: Ricotta cheese and Tomato sauce (kind of like a lasnga thing), Mushy peas, Beans and cheese, cream of wheat, oatmeal, and potato salad. Just a few ideas...

If you like Beans and Soup is ok with you, there is a bean with bacon Soup that I just had on the full liquids stage....I ran it through the blender since I can't have it like it comes out of the can, but it seems to be a pretty thick soup. I had to add Water to it to thin it, per can directions, but if you wanted something a little thicker, try it and don't add the full can of water....

also, I liked beanie weanies growing up, you might try that, it's just little Beans in a can with a few small slices of hot dogs....not sure if you can eat the hot dogs or not.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
