about to get my first fill......

Recommended Posts

I am 13 days out from surgery. I had my first follow up with my doctor today. He suggested I get a fill in the next week or two. I'm glad because I do not feel any restriction and I am often hungry.

What should I expect? Does the fill hurt? I hate needles. I understand I have to drink that crap and have another xray. How does it feel after fill when you eat?

I am only able to tell you what the needle part feels like since I had an unfill today. I'm a nurse, I hate needles. But I don't mind giving injections to other people. Ha! I had a lot of anxiety today over finding out that my nurse wanted me to come in stat for an unfill (complications). I had to sit on the table for a minute and have me a little pow wow session before proceeding on. I felt no pain. I did feel pressure but it was not bad at all. I really laid there thinking this was a walk in the park. My nurse kept apologizing, saying that this was going to be very tender feeling (so close to sore incisions) but it wouldn't be like this for my next fill. I assured her she wasn't hurting me at all.

Hopefully your fill will be the same for you and you get the restriction you need. Good Luck!

I had my first fill yesterday and so did my sister, I didn't feel a thing but my sister said she did, apparently he hit a nerve or something on her and it hurt all the way to her back, I never even felt the needle go in, maybe yours will be the same.

I have had my band since 9/22/10. Today I had my 4th fill. I never felt the needle before going in and today I did. I guess because I have lost a lot of fat in my stomach. It really didn't hurt. I guess because he also was pushing down on it. He gave me a fill but said I probably didn't need it. He added .2 saline. I think I have 5.0 in a 10.0 band. Today I am on liquids. Tomorrow I can go back to eating, he said if I have a problem then go back to liquids for a couple of more days. Hopefully everything will stay down. I just have to remember to chew, chew and eat very slowly. I have lost 80 lbs so far.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
