I had surgery on May 26th and am going to the gym for the first time today. Think of it this way...the more you go to the gym the faster you lose the weight and tone up! Good Luck!

Do it! See if you like it. If not, just find an activity you really love. I'd been going to the gym for years. Got really comfortable on the elliptical. Then I gave in to my friend who kept telling me to try kickboxing. Well I found that I LOVE that. I tried going to the gym after I'd been doing it for a few weeks and found I was bored. I do kickboxing now usually 6 days a week.

The only thing I could do to get motivated is have someone go with me. My dad works out every single morning and has been wanting to me to get to the gym so badly. So I finally told him I could join up if he would go with me every afternoon and be my personal trainer. He agreed. We start today!

Oh...and I went shopping and got some cute workout clothes. That helped too. ;)

GOOD LUCK!

Try a class at the gym or getting a personal trainer. Try going 2-3 days a week and build yourself up from there. Take at least a day break in between until you start working your way up. You can do this, just take it slow and work your way up there.

Help, please! I'm having the worst time getting motivated to go to the gym! :(

Sweetpea, make sure you check with your Dr about going to a gym this early after surgery. I couldnt do anything but walk for 6 weeks. You dont want your band to slip.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
