New to Lap Band Forum

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am new to the Lap Band Forum. I had my surgery on January 17, 2011 and have been doing well. I have lost 55 pounds so far and I am really happy that I made the decision to have the Lap Band. I have a hard time asking for help, but I realized that it woud be good to try and get and give support on this forum while I am going through this process. So here I am.

Thanks. I appreciate that. I haven't posted my day of surgery story yet. But I will have to say that the pre-op was good, the people were nice and I was pretty nervous. I will be honest and say that I was in a lot more pain than I thought I would be after the surgery in the area of my port. But my doctor said I had an unusual situation where my stomach fat was very thick so it was a little more painful than most. I had a couple of friends at work have the same surgery and they went back to work in a couple of days, it took me a week. But even with the pain I experienced - I am so glad I did it. It will be worth it. Let me know how your surgery goes.

Great job. I was banded on 1/20/2011 and it was the best decision I ever made.

Thanks. You have lost so much weight in 5 months- congratulations.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
