:o Did you have your 1 week appointment with your surgeon?

I am 1 week out and I am still sore-I think the incision are tighening up and that's a good thing. I also have a couple of stiched that didn't 'fall out'" so he said if they don't he will take them out in 2 weeks. Pain relivers should help with the soreness and an ice pack. I also find that if I sit upright too long it hurts. Now if those are gas pains you're having you'll have to plan to go outside and take a short walk a few times a day.

You'll feel better soon-really, you will!

Dr. has not called me to make an appt.As far as the gas pains go,i can deal with them. Now i just had the runs bad,i think everything i drank today,i just lost it all.The pain, im having is similar,if you have ever had bronchitis, you cough so much that your rib cage hurts, even just to clear my throat.I hope tomorrow is a better day.I have to go see my Regular Dr. tomorrow, for my monthly meds,im going to ask him to listen to my lungs and see if they are clear.

Your lungs get a little "tired" with the rest of you when you have surgery and are put to sleep. I had this as well and had a cough for a day and the next day I was fine. Try deep breathing (I know it hurts but trust me it will get better!) Take really deep breaths and do it 10-15x every hour to strengthen them. That's a good idea to have the dr listen to your lungs to make sure you're not getting sick from it, but it is likely that you just need to do some deep breathing exercises.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
