I'm trying to learn more about this, not for myself, but for someone else. I have a friend who has a band and was wondering if the food restriction this person has mentioned is accurate. This persons food must be; any deep fried food, bread caked in butter, crispy bacon, pancake saturated in butter, Pasta drenched in sauce, ribs, cream based Soup, meat drenched in sauce. No fruit, salad, broth based soup, vegetables, lean meat. This person swears that all food standard to a healthy diet clogs the hole and must be avoided. It's been maybe a year since this persons surgery. Does anyone have any insight? Is this true, must all healthy food be avoided? Must all food be fried or covered in butter/sauce so it can go down? I'm worried that this person is not embracing the lifestyle change needed to stay healthy.

Oh wow! Who is this person's doctor?? I have never heard anyone say you have to AVOID healthy food. It sounds like they are eating all of the things you should try to avoid!

There is also not a hard and fast rule on what can become stuck. I can eat almost anyhting, but one person may have issues with Pasta and another with chicken. I have issues w/ bread, but not all of the time and it depends on how doughy or thick the bread is.

Is this person losing any weight? I'm not saying it can't be done, but that would make it a lot harder. I just know that I still have to watch what I eat and a diet without any healthy fruits and veggies isn't good for anyone. You might get skinnier, but your blood pressure and cholesterol will be through the roof!!

Again, all I can say is "wow!"....

Thanks for your response. I had a feeling our friend was lying to the family as well as the doctors, but didn't have enough information on the subject. To clarify, we've never really heard... "I can't eat healthy food". We just get a definate "I can't eat that" when any heathy food is offered. The interaction is more like - Sorry, I can't eat steamed vegetables, Sorry, I can't eat salad, No, I can't eat chicken, No, I can't eat fruit. No to almost anything healthy. What we do hear is - I do better with fried food, It has to have alot of butter, It has to have alot of sauce. It's good to know that my instincts were right. A heathly diet is at the core of all weight loss programs, regardless of the type of program. I'm sure this person is lying to the doctor. It's a shame. Still, thanks for your help.

i don/t think thats true i was banded dec 7,2009,, i get some foods stuck now and then but it can be like lettuce, bread, tough cut meats,, but i never heard of that eating fried foods, buttery foods are only kinds of food,, they need to talk to a nutrionist to get back on track.. I eat veggies, fish, steaks, chicken, baked, good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
