Doctors make me anxious

Recommended Posts

My surgery is quickly approaching (June 20th) and I'm so excited! My problem is that Doctors have always made me incredible anxious. I have not stayed a night in the hospital since I was born and have never had a reason to go to the ER. I don't know why not knowing what to expect at the hospital is making me feel this way. Honestly, I'm more anxious about the awake part of the hospital stay than the actual surgery! My surgeon requires an overnight stay to monitor you. What were your hospital stays like? Does/ did anybody else have anxiety about the hospital?

Hi,

I didn't have to stay overnight but I wanted to respond to you just to let you know that it is totally normal to be anxious about surgery and the hospital. I have had surgery before and so I didn't feel overly nervous but I was totally teary before my procedure. I warned my doctor about it and she was completely understanding and everyone there was so kind and reassuring to me. They expect you to have some nervous about not only being in the hospital but the procedure and after care. Also - if you are worried that your anxiety is going to get the best of you - let you doctor know - they might give you a little "cocktail" in your IV to help with that.

It's going to be ok. I really feel like you should just let your surgeon know that you are anxious.

You'll do great!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
