Too few Calories Post-OP! Help!!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on May 19th. Yay - I hear the thunderous applause. The problem I'm having is too few calories. The MOST I've been able to get in a day is 644. I'm not meeting my Protein goal either. I have been using muscle milk but I have to break it up over 3 x a day because I hate it. I have used Special K Protein Shake with 2 tbs of reduced sugar jif. I'm eating my Soups -broths. I'm supposed to be on a liquid diet for 4 weeks post-op. It is killing me!!!!! I'm not getting my Water in either. I'm thinking things will settle down and I'll feel like having more. I'm very tired and at times don't want to get up to make anything. Anyone else having trouble 6 days post op feeling like eating? Thanks for the help.

That's common; just wait it out. If you feel you can eat more, do so. PB has a lot of calories which may help.

I hoped it would give me a little energy boost. Thanks for the encouragement.

I was on mushys 7 days post-op.

I've read several posts of people going through the phases much quicker than I am. My surgeon is in the UK. I think he may be more cautious than need be. I'm also giving myself blood thinner shots for 14 days and have to wear TED hose (compression stockings) for 6 weeks to prevent clots. Strange thing is I didn't have to do the pre-op diet. Go figure. I can't wait to progress to mushies but, I'm going to follow Dr's orders.

Your instructions are a bit extreme but I agree that you should follow your doctor's orders. If you don't like the Muscle Milk then try some other Protein Shakes. Everyone has different tastes so hopefully you can find one you like. There are also unflavored powders that you can mix with whatever you want.

I was on liquids for 2 weeks pre op AND 2 weeks post op.... and I didnt eat near the calories I was suipposed to...not for the lack of trying... I just wasnt hungry. After I moved to mushies at 3 weeks I concentrated on Protein, veggies, starch in that order. Your appetite will return in due time.

I was just worrying over he same thing last night. I was banded on the 20th, and I'm nowhere close to meeting my nutritional requirements. I calculated yesterday's food, and I was under 600 calories!

We're in it together. I'm wanting to get my energy levels back. Good luck. Let me know if you find a trick.

If you don't like the muscle milk try others. I use unflavored Protein Powder with crystal light, plain yogurt and fruit blended. It's the same consistency of a regular shake and tastes wonderful. I started this because my calorie count was too low, around 500 cal. Measure what you put in so you are aware of the calorie count. I usually keep mine around 300 cal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
