ok...I had my band for 3 mos. now, and so far I lost 23 pounds. Everything is going good except for the night time coughing and gaging that won't stop until I let something up. I don't eat or drink the 1/2 hour before bed, so I'm not sure what it is. I get this tickle in my throat about 15 min. after I lay down, and start coughing so much and so hard that my throat fills up with flem or liquid and I have to run to the bathroom and let it out. Once I let it out I can go to sleep. Now it happens sometimes during the day. What is this, does anyone know, please let me know what I can do, don't want to get no filling taken out, I'm doing so good. Please respond.

I think you need to stop eating and drinking much sooner than half an hour before bed. Even if you didn't have the band, it's advised to stop at least two to three hours before sleep. This is for digestive health and proper sleep. Carbs and Protein take about an hour to a few hours to digest. Veggies and fruit take about half an hour. However, this is different for bandsters and for people who lie down after eating. Lying down, the process of digestion is slowed and it can result in the irritation of the esophagus by raised stomach acids. Also, food in the upper digestive tract can disturb sleep and consuming Water too soon before bed may mean that you'll be more likely to wake up to pee during the night. Bandsters have to take this consideration more seriously since it takes much longer for food to leave the upper digestive tract with a pouch. One night, I had a Multivitamin pill about an hour before bed and, early in the morning, I woke up tasting some of it. I also used to drink a little Water about an hour before bed, thinking that it would pass through the pouch by bedtime. I woke up a few hours after bed coughing up water. My pillow was soaked. It doesn't happen to everyone. It happened to me when my band was a little too tight. A very small unfill (about 0.25 of a cc) helped a lot. Along with not eating later than a few hours before bed, maybe you need a small unfill?

Yes...I believe the eating before going to bed is the culprit..I would totally agree with that...Try eating 2 hours before going to bed. Most of the time I can drink Water and go to bed,,no problem..however...If I have eaten to soon before going to bed, I can tell and feel like i have to prop myself up with pillows to fall asleep to let that food pass......

My dr has a poster in his office for good and bad band zone and coughing and food coming back up is under a band being too tight. You may want to have the dr look into this ,,, goodluck

From what I have read and learned... your band is too tight.

These are symptoms of reflux. It can mean your band is too tight. Having some Fluid removed does not mean loss of restriction. Having a band that is too tight can lead to a lost band due to the reflux if it is allowed to go on too long.

Please call your surgeon and talk about it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
