I would say, even though I am only a week out from my lap band surgery, that ensuring getting the required Protein on a daily basis is a first and foremost. Not to forget the Vitamin supplement and hydration liquids. My surgeon and dietitian made this a big deal so that I do not lose weight from my muscles, but retain my muscle weight and lose fat.

I cant eat a whole 6 inch subway sandwich and I dont have any Fluid in my band at all! I tried once and it came back up and I was full to bursting at about 3/4 the way through it. Goes to show there might be something in the theory that your stomach shrinks.

I think with regard to amount of food, everyone is different and if it doesnt actually hurt - ie. you're feeling stuffed full, and you can feel the pressure, then you're probably not going to stretch your pouch out. But I would always be cautious with bread and other foods that swell with a labpand - even though I do eat them regularly, take it very slowly and allow it time to swell if its going to. There's nothing worse that scarfing it down and THEN it decides to expand and you find out after the fact that you ate way way too much.

Really? I can't do bread at all. Do ok with tortillas, so maybe could to a wrap. But bread makes mr miserable!

I can't do bread either. I read about others eating sandwiches and wonder how can they? I'm @ 7cc fill and bread is just not going to be in my diet. I can't eat soft tortillas either, but crunchy ones do. Breads in general have been removed for me........maybe a blessing.

I can't eat bread, soft tortillas. I remember in nutrition classes before surgery they would talk about eating like half a sandwich. I wish I could eat one, but its not going to happen for me. Maybe its a blessing.....

re: 6" subway

I have one now & then if circumstances conspire against another choice. Usually it makes at least 2 meals even now 6 1/2+ years postOp. It took about 2 years postOp to get to where I was even interested in giving one a try.

As a preOp total bread freak, I just don't care for that much bread, even their own stuff. It'll do if necessary.

And Subway in general to me, while the franchise has some great nutritional choices, doesn't appeal much. I have a buddy with severe food allergies, and Subway is his kitchen of choice while on the road. To me, it's rather like a nurses station full of things good for me but that I don't really care for.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
