Nov. 09 Bansters- we are a year and a half out.

Hi there,

18 months out is kind of a milestone for me. I go to a "Vetrans" support group. The vets sit at a table and those less than 18 months sit around it. For the first hour it's just the vets, than they open it up to the whole group. The June meeting will be my first one at the table.

I have done well with the band, lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. Right now, I keep my band very loose. I want to be able to eat Breakfast, whole grain breads and Pasta.

I am still struggling with 5 pounds I gained. I was "bad" for almost 2 weeks. Not again, it just wasn't worth it.

Hope you all are well and look forward to hearing your stories.

Thanks for posting this. I think you have done very well. Losing 107 in 10 months that is great. I would be thrilled if I could achieve those results. Do you exercise much? Has that been a vital factor in your weight loss? Just wondering.

Very inspiring for the newly banded! Sounds like you've done really great! I'm only a week and a half post op And currently in bandster hell, but this helps reassure me that it can and will happen! :) congratulations!

Yes, I excersise 4-5 times a week, I am now up to 45 minutes on the treadmill. I warm up for 5 minutes, walk 1 minute, jog for 4 for 35, cool down for 5. It's called interval training and is suppossed to burn more that than staying at the intense part the whole time.

I think the workouts are 1 key to my success, the othe is diet I eat very lean protien and non starchy veggies for meals. I snack on nuts (1/4 cup), low fat cheese and berries. I believe the low carb/ low fat/ high protien diet was key to my success.

Thanks for asking and I hope it helps. Everyone needs to do what works for them, this is just what worked for me. The very basic is if you burn more calories than you take in, you will loose weight. Best wishes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
