Left side discomfort anyone else?

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks post op and am finding when I eat, I get a discomfort on the left side of my abdomen. I thought it was just bowel movement pains, but it comes as I just finish eating. Anyone else feeling the same and know what it is??

I get pain on my left side just below my ribs. It's a few inches above my port. Sometimes I think it is gas, sometimes I think it is my stomach moving as it is forcing food through the stoma (opening between pouch and large stomach).

It comes and goes. It often comes if I over eat. A surefire sign to check my portions. But that is not always the trigger.

It was much worse immediately post-op, is pretty rare now, but I do still experience it from time-to-time.

Is that what you are feeling?

You are 2 weeks post op and your EATING????? You should still be on liquids. Your body hasn't finished healing. You are probably getting those pains from over eating. Happens to me every time!

Yes that could be what it is. And yes I'm eating. I am officially on a full diet today! My Doctor gave me the ok to eat a few days ago, but I waited. I'm not eating big meals still too scared! :0)

I was on solid foods at two weeks post-op. I often imagine the pain to be at the upper curvature of my large intestine or the far left side of my stomach. Sometimes I think it could be that the stomach is hitting the tubing as it is gyrating. But in reality, I haven't a clue what it is. Most likely gas. laugh.gif It will get better with time, if it is what mine is.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
