Liquid diet wearing me down

Recommended Posts

I'm on my seventh day of the liqud diet. My surgery is set for May 31. I have lost 14 pound so far. I don't know if I can keep this up. It is seriously beating me down. I can't stop thinking about, that's making it worse. To make things worse, I have to cook for two children. Any ideas on keeping me on the wagon?

First, congrats on day 7!! I am on day 2 and I feel run down and this morning I felt lightheaded. You had 11 more days-you can do this!! Every time you look at your kids think "I am doing this for you-so I can be around for a long time." Keep up with drinking your Water or you'll feel tired-same goes with Protein. My pre-op didn't say anything about chicken broth but I made Soup yesterday and put some chopped spinach in it for Iron. It tasted SO good-I added pepper and some spices. I am allowed raw vegetable so I amgoingto make the soup and add them at the last minute.

As far as cooking for 2-take shortcuts all you can. I hateto say it, but even prepackaged foods! Get in food that they like but you don't. Some said recently in a forum that when she was on the pre-op diet she can a post-it on her fridge that said "I can do anything for __days" I thought that was a good mindset!

Keep yourself occupied at all times-get some fresh air too!

Last night I put carnation choc powder in the blender with skim milk and ice cubes -blended it up and it was like an icy shake. :)

I think variety is the key. Do things to switch things up...I put instant Decaf coffee in my morning shake so it was kind of like a latte, buy some DaVinci or Torani sugar free Syrup to put in your shakes to change the flavors and get a couple of different flavors of Protein powder for variety (one of my favs was strawberry Protein Powder mixed with crystal lite lemonade...tastes like strawberry lemonade). Also, drink broth when you are cooking and your family is eating...not much Protein but it tastes like chicken so it somehow feels more like you are "eating" something.

Remember... it is only for a short period of time...YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

I'm on day 2 of my liquid diet, my surgery is May 27th. I only had to do it for 10 days, so I'm feeling for you!! I actually got some cream of chicken Soup in Hand from Campbell's which only has 150 calories. Although it only has 3g of Protein, I saved some calories for my dinner so that I could do this soup last night. It really filled me up and I had one today for lunch, so I'll just do a shake tonight. Wish you lots of luck!!

I am on day 3 of my liquid diet...all I can have are the Protein drinks and raw veggies. I am feeling very run down as well, and a killer headache. I went for a walk last night and that seemed to actually make me feel a little better. I have surgery on the 31st. I have been putting ice with my shakes and blending them, and that seems to make them a little more enjoyable. 11 more days! I think the worst of it is over for me :)

I cannot have any solids. Except cottage cheese, if you call that a solid. What I would do for a raw veggie right now. Yogurt and chicken broth is getting old.

I am almost two weeks post op ( I have three days left of the liquid diet ... total of 4 weeks ) . I have to tell you this is the hardest thing I have ever done.... I suggest keeping your mind active and off of the food. I have cheated several times and can assure you that is something you dont want to do. I suggest tying to add as much variety as possible especially with the Protein shakes.... go to the Vitamin store and get samples of all the different Protein drinks.

good luck !

Funny how our brain works! You would give anything for a raw veggie, and I feel like the taste of cottage cheese or yogurt would be heaven!

Speaking of Cottage cheese ! Here is something you can have, and it is good.

Ingredients:

! large Cottage Cheese

* or 12 oz. Cool Whip

1 small box of Jello (NO Water AT ALL)

Small can of crushed pineapple (IF YOU CAN)

Empty the Jello in a bowl, and add the cool whip to it. Stir until dissolved.

Blend in the cottage cheese, then if you can add drained crushed pineapple. Chill, then serve.

I had a cup of it for dinner, It was Delicious.

Hope this helps.

Also Muscle Milk Light helps kill the hunger. Look for it on ebay. Type in MUSCLE MILK, and MUSCLE MILK LIGHT will appear, that's what you want. Then look for prices, when you find $5.99 a jug for strawberry milkshake, you found my supplier. It's good stuff, you can't beat the price, and it kills hunger. Take a look for yourself.

Are you taking any Vitamins?

We are all put on FLINTSTONES COMPLETE with CHOLINE.

I do about 4 a day, it keeps me peppy. I have tried Costcos

with the choline, and no comparison. I still felt BLAGH.

They are in a orange box must say CHOLINE on the front of box.

You can go online for coupons for Flintstones Vitamins,

and get coupons that will work for this one.

When I get hungry on the side,,, I chew 4 of them, and I get my

vitamins plus I kill the hunger.

you can google choline, and read about it.

Hope you feel better.

Little things can make a big difference in how we think we feel. What helped me was to review why I chose to take this route.....after so many decades of being Morbidly Obese I was more fed up with being over fed I was excited to have some new experiences. And looking back the time goes a whole lot faster than you think, when you are looking forward. The old quote "One day at at time" served me very well. Don't give up. Don't give in. You can do this. cheers on your journey

I'm curious to hear what your all pre-op diets are? I know liquids but what about the specifics. I will ONLY be allowed Protein drinks and can't go 40-50 carbs a day in doing those. I have to do this for 2 weeks.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
