First Fill Today

I had my first fill today... it was definitely interesting. After trying to find the port five different times - yes five pokes with that needle - they got out an ultrasound to locate it. Then he poked me three more times ... he said if he couldn't find it was going to have to make an appointment for me at radiology in order to get the first fill. Luckily, on the last try he finally got the needle into the port!!! My stomach is actually somewhat tender this evening.

Like a few others have posted, I had to sit up with the needle sticking out and he had me drink Water until I felt the restriction and then pulled just enough Fluid out to let the Water pass through ... he ended up adding about 2ccs of Fluid in addition to what was already in there.

I can definitely tell a difference tonight and hope that this level of fullness continues.

Do you know how much you have total now? I can't believe you had to get poked so much :(

Does your Dr.use a numbng agent. If he does not, ask for one next time. I had to have 3 sticks, but they did not even feel bad because i had the numbing done.was perfectly fine. My Dr. had to finally change sides to get better leverage from the left. I totally respect him and his work, but, was really scared for this first fill. Afterwards I was fine and had no discomfort or pain at all. For the first time I have felt full following surgery and am excited to work with that feeling.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
