How many fills do you get and how long do you have to get them

Recommended Posts

Im new to this all im not sure which surgery I should have im sure the dr will help with that. But my questions are how long can you keep the band in and are you given fills up to so many over a time period. Does your ins pay for any or is it all up to me to pay. I have no problem doing so. Can anyone tell me how much. Thank you for any informaton.

I decided on the band because I could have fills. I've had family members that had bypass and gain back a ton of weight; I've had friends that had the sleeve and not lose all the weight. But, I do have a friend that lost 186 with the band and has kept it off for almost 5 years now.......It's been 18 months since I had my band and I've lost 110 lbs and I'm at my goal. I've had 4 fills and 1 unfill (about a month after the last fill). I paid for the surgery myself and went to a general surgeon that I know and fills are extra ($125). You can keep the band forever - no reason to remove it.......but if you needed too, you could unfill it or remove it.

I really want to thank you for your help. Im going to a seminar this friday. I dont think I want to do the bypass because of the dumping people talk about. then I read about ban slipage and your food feeling stuck in your throat. It is a major decision. I said I would never consider it and now hear I am. Thank you for listening.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
