Hick up burps anyone else got them??

Recommended Posts

I am 1 week and 1 day post op, I am having these weird burp hickups. They feel like everything in me is about to come up but then it just comes out as something like a hickup and a weird burp kinda thing. I get them about 1 every 5 mins. It is pretty irritating!! I want to make sure it's nothing to worry about, I also had a hiatal hernia when they went in and they fix it. So just making sure its nothing to do with that.

I'm 6 days post op and I get the same thing. ( very annoying) I did not have a hernia repaired so I'm assuming it's a Normal lapband thing. I've heard many on here say that they have difficultly burping and going to bathroom (getting gas out) so best advice is to walk , walk, walk... Easier said then done when in pain ... Lol-

Good luck to you

I am seeing the same thing, I am 5 days now and starting to get ALL the sensation back inside... wow do we make some serious noises internally...

anyways that burp and the hickup is the pouch emptying from what i can ascertain... when you drink or eat it is still settling in the pouch and draining into the stomach, when that happens you have the release of air causing the burp, gurgle or hickup... at first i really thought i could actually feel the swirling effect inside me... had the mental picture of the toilet bowl swirl as my pouch emptied into my stomach... a bit dramatic but its amazing what your mind puts together when you really dont know whats happening...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
