Help! Port can show thru???

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to this site. My surgery is in a little over a week-May 19th.

I noticed a post from a member saying about their port showing. That is my biggest concern...Even now, with me being at my heaviest, I still have a small-ish waist. And when I lose weight, that is the first place it comes off of. When I have lost weight in the past, my waist would get small and my stomach would get flat, and you could see where it concaves in at the obliques. My waist/stomach was my best asset when I got thin, so I am kinda freaking out about the port showing.

Can anyone please post some pics of their port showing thru? Any and all info is appreciated.

Thank You!~Lisa

The port can go a few different places. You should discuss it with your Surgeon, maybe he can put it in a better place.

You might want to check out Alien Bandit's blog, she takes a lot of stomach pictures and I know there are some of her pre-plastics, when her port was pretty obvious.

My port is very obvious, I have a thin mid section too. It sticks out like a beacon if I'm undressed. I never worried about it, still work a bikini however other surgery has scarred my stomach now and at 43, I probably wont show it in public again. To be truthful, at my age and after such a big weight loss and 3 pregnancies, I didnt need plastic surgery for loose skin but there sure are better stomachs on the beach than mine, its probably better covered up now that I've gotten over the thrill of actually being able to wear a bikini in public without attracting horrified stares. Other than wearing a bikini, there's nothing else that the port shows through clothing wise. Well, it does a little in a fitted Tshirt, but you'd have to be looking hard for it, kinda thing, nobody else would notice. Heck, I still wear fitted T's and I have an ilestomy bag for the time being, and nobody notices THAT, so I dont think a port is a huge problem through clothing.

Mine looks as though there is a golf ball right under my skin. I'm a man, and my stomach has always been hard (although big!) When I go for a fill, the Dr. always chuckles saying "No problem here" and "I can do this with my eyes closed" or "I wish they all this easy"

Thanks for responding..

"being able to wear a bikini in public without attracting horrified stares." <- That's funny when you said that. haha...

I can't believe you were ever heavy; I can't imagine, looking at your photos...Were you heavy your whole life or just a few years?

My port is really deep so that it doesn't show through. I'm sure you can talk to your surgeon about this!

I had mega problems with my port. Even with a low profile port it stuck out. It wasn't so bad when I first got banded but when I had the band removed and then the band put in the scar tissue in the port area plus the port made it stick out even when I was 40ish lbs from goal.

My doc wanted to do a mini Tummy Tuck ( that we then extended) to get rid of the port bump and move the port but even once it was gone from a certain area there was still evidence of where it once was.

Here are a few links to photos

Here is my stomach before Lipo, band removal and when my port wasnt a problem

Here you can see a little even without the port in place anymore that my stomach sticks out a bit

Once I got rebanded my port really stuck out

Even a mini tt didnt do much for my port and it was moved. This is from scar tissue left over I am told

A month later the damn problem is still there

Finally after a few months my doc went in mega pulled my skin, removed scar tissue and voila

I would def talk to your doctor about your concerns and what he can do to prevent your port from being so noticeable. I seem to be his only patient whos port loved to show off.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
