Today was day one of my 2 week pre-op diet. My diet is very strict allowing only liquids. So far so good. I stuck to it 100% and even worked out at the gym. Am I being delusional in thinking the whole 2 weeks will be like this. If this is as bad as it gets then I can handle it. What is everyone elses experience with an all liquid pre-op diet. Is it going to get worse?

I'm sure by day 13 you will be thinking differently haha (then another week or two after surgery, then mushies for a week a or two..). But eventually you will get to eat again!

Maybe you're feeling quite excited that you finally have the date for surgery? Today was my 1st day and it's been hard not to eat! I wanted a starbuck's coffee SO badly today and I don't know how I avoided it. I can truly tell why I failed every other diet...I always say "I can do it later..." With this, I know I can't mess up these next 2 weeks so that's making me stay on track. I hope you continue with your delusions and have a great 2 weeks :)

Is your surgery the 24th also?? I wish it would hurry up and get here!

Day one was great- I was pumped for my surgery and excited it was so close. Plus, it was almost an "adventure" to just have Clear Liquids (broth) and Protein Shakes. By day 3, caffeine withdrawl headaches set in and by day 5 I was grumpy and cranky. Day 7, though, wasn't too bad, because it was the "halfway" mark for the liquid preop diet. The second week wasn't too bad. I actually learned a few things (like I could use the seasoning packets from Ramen noodles to make my broth and that I could had plain Protein Powder to my broth to make it "heartier") and was getting closer to surgery. By the morning of surgery, I couldn't wait to have "real food" (ie: cream of wheat) when I got home.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
