I am 37 years old and have high blood pressure. I weigh about 200 lbs currently and am seriously considering having the lap band. I have seen Dr. Spivak in Houston and taken all the required test. I havent scheduled because I want to know that it will work. I have been reading some of the forums and have seena few postings where people are losing very little weight in a few months and that seems very discouraging to me. Before, I put my 14,000 into this, I guess I want to hear more success stories.

Also, any of you had your surgery done with Dr. Spivak? would like to hear about it.

Hi Tracy~

Dr. Spivak was my Dr.

A couple of questions for you...

How much weight do you need to lose? If you are only 200 lbs and considering WLS I am assuming you are vertically challenged (no offense)

If you only have 60 pounds to lose it may come off a lot slower than someone that has 200 lbs to lose.

You have to stick with a certain way of eating if you want to lose the weight. Like Dr. Spivak says... 50% of it comes off with the band alone and the other 50% is up to you! :)

I have lost about 35lbs in 2 months... but I haven't been working out until here recently, and the past month I haven't been eating right... so I have not lost what I should.

If you have any other questions, just let us know!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
