I am 3 days post-op and I feel like throwing up just thinking about taking a drink of anything and I gag at looking at anything. Any suggestions? I don't want to end up back in the hospital from dehydration. Plus I have 2 more pills I need to crush and take.

Hi I just got my band 4-28-11. I can relate to you I felt the excact same way the first few days. It felt like I was having a heart attack when I would drink. You have to just take small sips even just to wet your pallet. just keep taking small sips even eating ice chips helps. liquids was the hardest for me to keep down. Jello worked better. but eventually really soon the Water won't hurt as bad. Goodluck

Have you tried coconut juice? Was the only thing I could drink when I was sick.

I found it helpful to drink some Jello. Just put some in a glass before you put the rest in the fridge to "jell.'

Call your doctor... they can prescribe something for your nausea. It is a suppository so you dont have to swallow it. They saved my life. Don't bother with the milky type protien shakes... they make it worse. Try the Isopure drinks... they are loaded with protien but taste like koolaid. Make sure you shake them really well, serve them over ice so they are really cold and sip, sip, sip. Hang in there... it gets better everyday and so worth it! God Bless!

Also try popsicles or pedialtye popslcles to help with the dehydration.

i am kinda having the same problem. when i drink my V8, it feels like it is getting stuck right in the center of my chest and takes a while to go down. I have been freezing my V8 splash and it has helped tremendously. i can eat the frozen things so much easier than the room temperature things. my broth hasn't been a problem, it goes down very easy. i'm still not getting enough down though. i am barely managing to get 32 oz of fluids down when i need 64. i am doing my very best though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
