7 days post-op left side stabbing pain

Hi Elie You're not helping so why dont you find someone else to harrass. You seem to be a bully. The comment about my lil sister was totally uncalled for and a very low hit since you know absolutely nothing about me. I'd rather not hear any of your viewpoints because you dont seem to know how to talk to people without trying to be a know it all I'm smarter than you way of saying things so please could you just leave me aloneIt wouldn't matter what you had to offer from here on out because i would simpley scroll pass your comments. @at 54Shirley and SDTeagirl thank you for your support and suggestions. I did find out what the pain was,and I'm feeling much better. I was really worried and frustrated at first so sdteagirl thanks for your kind words. I had a combination of gas blockage and Constipation and it was starting to make me really sick.So now i'm not feeling so tight and bloated. Just wondering if anyone knows how long my tummy will be sore. And how long before all the tape falls off? Teagirl since you're 1 day behind me how are you doing with liquids and hunger pains? My hunger pains are ferocious! Although it doesnt take much for me to fill up or I just lose interest in what I'm eating. Strange.Something else I am so wore out. all I've done this 1st week is rest.Is that normal? I wasn't sure if it had something to do with being under so much stress prior to surgery. Any input from anyone else is very welcomed. Thanks

I was just banded on 4/28 also. I just talked to the nurse yesterday about the continued pain in my left shoulder/side and she told me that it is normal and it is most likely gas. She told me to use Maalox because it seems to work better than anything else. She also said that some people will have gas pains for up to a month. The pain in my shoulder brought me to tears last night. I keep walking and a heating pad and will get Maalox this weekend. I'm sure it will pass so I'm going to be tough a little longer. Good luck!!!

Hi delightful. I know what you mean about that shoulder pain. I used Gas x and pain pills for mine!lol It will get better as far as the gas from the surgery. Just hang in there. Today my nurse had me to take milk of magnesia. And wow after it kicked in and my stomach settled I felt like 100% better. That Gas ain't no joke!lol But make sure your're not going to long b4 having a bm. Because that combined with the gas is torture. Nice hearing from you. Best of luck to you!

Hi All. I'm in quite bit of discomfort as a write this so please excuse the lack of details. I had my banding done last thursday april28. Today I'm experiencing sharp stabbing pains on my left side and belly button. I was on Clear Liquids days 1-4. days 5 and 6 full liquids next really soft blended food. Still liquidty. I've been tolerating the food pretty good. liquids at first was the hardest to keep down, but now no trouble with that either. I haven't had a bowl movement since the surgery,so after calling my doc office like 3 x's I decided to take a capful of mirolax with oj on my own. I also took a few table spoons of anti-gas med which is giving me some relief. So I'm hoping the pain is just gas,but I can't be sure. could some one help me out with some ideas or if they've experienced anything similar. I'm pretty sure the nurses have not told the doc that i've called so when i call back i'm sure I wont be as polite.I admit I haven't been doing a lot of moving around. I was under so much stress leading up to the surgery that all I've been able to do is sleep and rest. Its been so long since i've done that. but now I'm ready to move around and cant because of the discomfort in my stomach.

Hey , I hope you're feeling better since you posted this thread!! I too was having the same issues after surgery with the overwhelming feeling of gas that caused major discomfort. I found out that during surgery they blow your stomach up with Carbon Dioxide so big to where you look like your 9 months pregnant. the main cause of your pains in my opinion is the gas. The only way to get rid of it is to be active and walk. 2 hrs after i had surgery i was walking the halls of the hospital. The nurses and staff said they had never had a patient walk so much as i did after surgery. My dr. informed me that walking is the fastest way to rid your body of the Carbon Dioxide.

Gas is insane. It can put pain in you that you never would have expected, so getting yourself un-constipated was a great idea. Also, while you are still sensitive and healing, try to stay away from ANYTHING too heavy both lifting and eating wise. Sharp pains around your scars is just the nerves waking up and is to be expected once in a while. Not sure how long that will happen for.

If your still feeling pain, gas-y, bloated after taking Gas-X and stuff to take care of the Constipation, then try moving around a lot more. Someone on here posted once that sometimes gas can get into muscle tissues as well and that no amount of Gas-X, etc.. with help that. Just time and lots of movement.

This forum is actually very good, and a must have for people pre and post surgery. Don't get discouraged by the lack of responders. Some people are just too overwhelmed with their own problems and looking for answers, rather then trying to answer others.

I can't explain enough how important this forum is. Keep reading, and you will find it to be one of the best things you could have done for yourself. :)

Hello,

I just joined this forum after finding the site via a google search for stabbing side pain following lap band surgery. I'm 7 days post-op today and the only discomfort that I feel is on the left side of my body. My left side hurts, my left shoulder hurts and the lower left side of my abdomen hurts. I have zero soreness in my incisions (they just itch).

Before reading your post, I was wondering if I had possibly overdone the walking since my surgery. I was up and walking within hours of the surgery and have been doing a lot of walking for the last 3 days (Christmas shopping in the mall). I was prepared for shoulder pain since thats a well documented post surgery complaint but the side pain is concerning.

Was the ultimate reason for your side pain just gas? How do you feel now and how long did it take for you to begin to feel better?

Thank you.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
