What to do after my band slipped?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded August of 2009 and got pregnant 4 months after my band. However I have been pretty successful in my weight loss total of 65lbs of the 110lbs I want to lose. However in January I started to notice I could eat much more and really started to have a lot of reflux esp at night. After fills and unfills to try and adjust my band we did the swallow test and my band slipped down. My doctor took out all my fill and now I have to wait a few weeks and see if my band reposition itself properly. If it does not I have to decide whether or not to just remove my band or have it revised. Both require surgery again. I was just wondering if anyone out there has gone through the same thing and what was the outcome of the removal or revision. Thanks for any input.

I know what you are going through....I had a revision/repositioning because unfilling didn't work. It was a difficult time because during the 4 months it was unfilled and the refilling started I gained over 30 pounds. Ppl will post that you don't necessarily have to gain wt, and I agree, but I was voraciously hungry again without my band. The band revision is so far so good, but if it slips again it can't be fixed and I will try to get a sleeve approved by my insurance.

I wish you the best of luck.

Mimi

I'm going through the same thing right now! I have slipped 3 times now and I don't know what to do! I just want to start over. I really want to just have a revision and not the sleeve. Good to know there are other people out there experiencing the same thing!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
