Really struggling with this post-op diet!

Recommended Posts

I am bandster hell right along with you folks! My doctor's diet for me right now (I'm 5 days post op) is full liquids but only 2 oz per meal! So I eat 2 oz of Cream of Wheat or oatmeal for bfast, then I drink 20 oz protien shake throughout the morning, 2 oz of either a creamed Soup or instant mashed potatoes for lunch, then I have to try to drink 2 bottles of Water for the rest of the night and 2 oz of instant mashed potatoes for dinner...and let me tell you..I AM STARVING. And not just hungry, like my hunger pains get so bad in the afternoons that it HURTS BAD. It feels like bloating but then my stomach growls! I went back to work today and it wasn't too bad but I was tired by 10 am and starving only an hour after eating lunch :( Im trying to get all my liquids and Protein in but I am STILL HUNGRY! I am going to try to eat more Jello and broth to help but I doubt it will help as much as I need it to. I have no intention of cheating but I am completely miserable! I get to start mushies on Wednesday and I am desperately helping it will be better, but again, my meals will only be 2 oz at a time :/ and I am not seeing my doctor until June 2 (and praying for a fill then too). Wish me luck!

I am four days post op and feel like I am going to starve to death. I have done so well, even loosing weight before my surgery. I have lost 40 lbs and did my pre op diet. But these Clear Liquids are killing me. I am not sure if I am hungry, but my stomache continues to growl. Then on top of that every time I eat, I have liquid stools. What??? Those little 2oz goes right through me. Then they say drink more, the more I drink the more I end up in the bathroom. I am tuff, but this is wearing me a little thin. It is nice to see that I am not alone.

Erin Marie hang in there. I feel your pain. I had to do full liquids post op for 2 weeks. Yours is just a matter of days before you get to mushies. I started mushies last Friday though I was supposed to start them the following Mon. Like you I ate the amt.I was supposed to but I still felt hungry so I ate more. I never did feel full though the Dr. said he'd put a little liquid in my band during surgery. I don't believe him. The only reason I stopped eating was because I was afraid I'd injure myself.

Clinsup I wouldn't worry about the liquid stool. I'm no expert but I had that too during the full liquid phase. Besides what's it got to get solid with inside? Getting all of that liquid down can be horrendous. I have a huge jug that will hold 32 oz of liquid. I fill it up in the mornings and use it throughout the day for making Crystal Lt., coffee, mixing in Soup and drinking. Once that 32oz is empty I fill it up again. Once that's over, I know I've gotten my 64 oz. I don't always make it but the Doc said to do as much as I could. You'll be surprised @ how fast you'll use up that first 32 oz.

BTW has anyone had problems getting onto the chat line?

Thanks rrr! I spread my Protein shake out throughout the day today and that seemed to help a bit! I plan to do the same thing tomorrow with my mushies!

As for the Chat...I have never been on it!

You will do it!! It is hard dont get me wrong, but so is me trying to walk up a hill, or run with my dog, or climb the stairs at my house. That is how I am making it through this. Good luck on your journey!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
