Please tell me this goes away. I was banded on 4/21 and I feel like crap. My portnincision is killing me, and I have this constant deep ache where I'm sure the band is. I know I'm really only 2 days out but I feel so yucky! I'm desperate to feel better. Also, I am having trouble meeting my shake requirements because I'm just not hungry. And I'm so tired of sweet I could just die. But broth tastes bad too. Argh. I'm feeling so depressed.

Deidre,

I didn't get close to my requirements for the first 4 or 5 days. I wan't hungry, it tasted nasty. Adding plain Protein powder to the broth was icky. I counted - I was only getting 40 - 50 carbs a day. I wasn't sure if I could do this. Now I'm 1 month tomorrow, down 18 pounds and okay. At week 3, I was still having pains and could barely bend over.. It's not all rainbows and butterflies for everyone. But keep going.

the most important thing is that you stay hydrated. If it only consists of Water the first couple of days I don't think that is a big deal. But make sure you are at least getting water. Good Luck to you all!

It gets better every day. Just try to stick it out. I ate several sugar free Popsicles a day. I know you ate sick of sweet buy maybe cold and sweet might taste different. Best wishes!

I was banded yesterday 4/22. My port site is killing me also. I can not start my Protein supplements until Monday so I am living on broth and sf ice pops too. I have the shakes and when I take deep breaths or burp, it kills me. I'm not hungry either, I'm hoping every day will get better!

Good Luck!! Kelly

Most of us have been exactly where you are now. For me, everything pretty much sucked for at least a week. I could NOT drink enough Protein Shake for the life of me, and then I knew I was also getting dehydrated, and day 3-5 were the worst for me. Then the hunger kicks in... OH the hunger. Hahaha, I can laugh about it now because I made it through, as all of these other bandsters did. We make it through. By day 10 you'll physically be feeling better, and just dealing with outrageous hunger. By 3 weeks out, you'll be able to eat more and feel pretty good about everything. It's funny, because I'm only 2 months out, and I remember making my first post-op post on here feeling like I regretted having the surgery. But it passes, and you lose weight, and you feel better. Hang in there! We're here for you!

Yup Lizzy is right. I am 4weeks out. I didn't feel anything like normal until day4 or 5. I walked a lot 1 to 2 miles a day. Just shuffling along. Drink lots of Water. Do what your dr says. Get as much Protein as you can, think of what you eat as medicine and not entertainment. Day 5 I wanted to knaw domaines arm off I was so hungry. Popsicles and Jello got me through. I tried yogurt early and it got stuck. Pretty soon you will be eating pureed meat and loving it, ha ha! Hold on it gets better!

I got banded on 4/22 and it i'm not even sure what hurts more, the incision sight or where the actual band is. It feels like there is a brick on my chest and the only way I can sleep is at a 90 degree angle. I had three sips of a Protein Shake yesterday and I thought the pressure in my chest would kill me. Please tell me this feeling ends soon. I've only had diet iced tea, Water and cheweable Vitamins. I feel like i should walk but I'm so dizzy and miserable. It doesnt feel like gas pain exactly, more like pressure. ugh.

Wow... I feel much better reading this thead... I got banded 4/21 and the chest pain is BAD... I can't take a deep breath because it hurts.

My diets seem a little different than most of yours... I have one week of Clear Liquids and 3 weeks of shakes and liquid Soups.< /p>

The worst pain i feel is this feeling that air is coming up and I need to burp but nothing comes up. My incision where the pot is also hurts like heck...

I'm supposed to go back to work tomorrow. I'll try...

I was banded on 4/20 ... I'm have some second thoughts! I have jumped the gun I must admit I didn't think a day or two would make a major difference. My doctor said liquids and Protein Shakes for approximately 6 days. I have started to experiment with some soft foods. Everything just feels like it sits in the middle of my chest. I have went back to doctors orders which is just liquids and Protein shakes but I'm hungry. I see this may take a little more discipline than I intentionally thought. My doctor has advice in the future to keep meals to a "cup" size in portion but at this point I don't see how I can eat a cup size portion of anything less long a meal.

I was banded on 3/1/2011. I remember the exact pain you are feeling. My doctor perscribed me hydrocodone when I was released from the hospital. Make sure you take it every 4 hours as perscribed. Also the majority of the pain should be gone within a week. You may have a little pain by the incision where the port was attached for a month however the pain is very minimal after the first week.

Dont be too concerned about the lack of shake intake. The first week after surgery is about heeling. I was barely able to eat anything. Make sure you get lots of rest, do some walking around to keep the blood flowing, drink plenty of liquids, and get as much Protein as you can.

Good luck to you.

i got banded on 4/ 22 too but i seem to be doing a bit better. the most important thing is to walk walk walk. i know it is not fun but you have to if you wanna feel better any time soon. my husband has been like a drill Sargent getting me up to walk all the time. If it wasn't for him i would still be sitting in the recliner with an insane amount of pain! but getting up and walking around has really helped

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
