Energy level after surgery and during the journey?

Recommended Posts

Hi. My surger is scheduled for Thursday, April 28th. I was wondering what your energy level was the day after surgery, during the liquid diet phase, during the mushie stage and beyond?

I am supposed to take my son to an important doctor appointment the morning after my surgery at 8am. I had to schedule the appointment 2 months in advance. I'd prefer to not reschedule it. But, I don't know if I will have the energy to drive. Did any of you have a hard time driving?

I didn't drive until 6 days post-o because you're not supposed to drive if you're still taking the pain meds. Can anyone drive the two of you there?

That's a little soon to drive. You will be sore and moving slowly too, so take that into account when getting ready. I hope you can make arrangements for someone to take you. Good luck!

I also feel that is way too soon to drive. Your mobility will most likely be affected which will in turn affect your ability to drive safely. You could most likely do it without too much problem, but you are really putting yourselves and those on the roads around you at risk unnecessarily. You really need to either get someone else to do the driving, or hopefully be able to re-schedule. Hopefully you will be feeling great the next day but even then many don't feel like being out and about that much so soon. Good luck with your situation, whatever you decide.

obviously, the best is to have someone drive you and your son, but if you don't have anyone and you are not taking any pain meds and are not sleepy (obvious safety thought processes) make sure that you protect your incision site(s) by using a small pillow / pad to protect you from the seat belt.

You energy levels will be low, so take rest where you can and take it slow.

Some folks do just fine after surgery and only need to protect their incision sites.

I definitely felt drained for the first few days. I don't think driving is the best idea. Hope you can find someone to take you both!!

Good news! I was able to get my son's previous doctor to order an emergency supply of his medicine to get him through another month. Yeah! Now I can reschedule. Whew! That is a relief!

Thanks for the reminder about the pillow. I forgot about that. I'll have to make a little reminder list for surgery day. 2.5 days to go.....

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
