I was told no pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I get banded on the 28th.I am having my surgery done in Las Vegas, NV. I see everyone talking about a pre-op diet. I asked the nurtionist at the clinic I am having my surgery through and she told me no pre-op diet. They said just nothing to eat or drink after 10:00 pm the night before surgery. Has anyone else been told no pre-op diet? Also, the pre-op packet only has me on a liquid diet for 1-2 days then soft solids for 2 weeks. This seems so different then what I am reading on this site. Unfortunately, there is no support groups anywhere around me and no one I know of has had this surgery. So I really have no have anyone else to ask if this is normal?

All docs are different. There are a few around here that don't require a pre-op either. Mostly the diet is to shrink the liver so maybe for your doc, it depends on how much weight you have to lose. As for the post op diet, that is pretty much what I did, although my doctor wants us to do liquids for longer that a couple days if possible.

Thanks for the information. My BMI is 45 and I have over 150 pounds to lose. So I have a lot of weight to lose. I was just really suprised that no one else ever said they did not have a post op diet. Just seemed weird.

I did not have a pre-op diet either. They wanted me to try and lose weight prior to surgery because it helps shrink your liver and that is the organ that in nearest where they place the lap band, but I did not have to do any special diet. I also was on liquids just 2 or 3 days and then could start mushies. Everything went very well for me. Good Luck!

Not every surgeon requires it. Consider yourself lucky! Good luck with everything.

No pre-op diet here either, consider yourself lucky :) My post-op instructions are different, though.

I had no pre op diet either. I was told to have soft foods the day before surgery and nothing after 8 pm the night before.

Samsies. I left the hospital on full liquids too. Everyone is different, and yes; I would consider myself lucky!

My surgery was on April 15th. I didn't have a specific pre-op diet however I was required to lose between 10-25 lbs so there was some dieting involved. I see a lot of people had to do a liquid diet but I just watched what I was putting in my mouth and was quite successful. I dropped 12 lbs in a week and a half. Hope that makes you feel a bit more at ease. Good luck with your surgery and if you have any questions feel free to message me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
