Calming my spouse's fears

Recommended Posts

My husband is having a lot of fear over me getting this surgery. He is worried that I am going to get skinny and leave him. We both know of couples where this happened. I wasn't very close to any of these couples so I don't know what their marriage was like. But, I do know what my marriage is like. I'm trying to calm his fears. But, it is frustrating. I would prefer to have his support at calming my fears instead of the other way around. Has anyone else had to deal with this?

I would keep reassuring him on a daily basis and involve him with your journey , the more informed the more less he will feel left out. Keep him feeling secure is the key!

take him to a support meeting where this can be discussed.

Mine had the same hang up.

My husband said the same thing! I guess this must be fairly common. If you figure out the magic words, let me know!

So, the ironic thing is that my husband lost 70 pounds in the last year. He's not planning on leaving me. And he is still the same person. I guess I should remind him of that the next time he brings it up. If our relationship was not affected by his weight loss, why would mine?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
