So i see the nutritionist, psychiatric and gastroenterologist (not sure if i spelled that right). I'm happy they offer the 3 in 1 i can get everything I need to get done on one day @ one location. I love being efficient laugh.gif

Oh nice, I wish columbia had a 3-in-1...i was running all over the city trying to cover all the appts without missing too much work! Thankfully I got it done in just a coupld weeks and now just a few weeks until surgery date. I like the "closet bander" too...although i'm not closeted, but i've only told a small group of people.

I'm in the financial district...so not far from bklyn! Good luck with getting through the whole process and getting a date set! :)

I am doing the surgery with my mom, so she, my aunt and a close friend knows. I haven't told my bestfriend which was strange now that i think about it. She's an amazing person but she's the typical girl who eats a ton and doesn't gain a single pound and i personally don't feel she'll contribute anything to my process as a whole.

As for the rest of my family, i love them to death but they are somewhat judgemental and dont know how to keep information to themselves. So they are not allowed on this journey with me....

@Dawn you had your surgery today I hope your making a speedy recovery=)

Random thought: I was just thinking i need a buddy/mentor when i get banded but i want someone close that we can maybe meet up once in a while to just sit and chat. I've learned that surrounding your self with likeminded goal really pushes you to succeed

Oh that's great! I'm having it done at Columbia Presbyterian. I meet the surgeon on Wednesday to set the surgery date.

How's your experience been with Cornell so far? Do you have a date in mind you're hoping to have the surgery done?

Hey There,

I see you are going to Dr. Schrope. I am seeing her as well, but I'm going to see her at Valley Hosp. in NJ. I work at Columbia and decided that I'll go there for my after care, but the actual surgery I'm having done in NJ. I have my consult with her on Wed. Was there much time between your consult and the date set for surgery? I'm hoping to get this done before the summer hits (and before my nerves get the best of me!). All the best to you. Stay in touch!

-Ivy

Park Slope, Brooklyn here. Had mine on 5/12 with Dr. Gorecki at Methodist Hospital. I chose him because he's done a lot of these surgeries and has had no serious complications in years. He is one of the most respected bariatric surgeons in nyc along with dr. ren, etc. There is a free support group at the hospital 2x a month.

I'm Thrilled that i had the band---the post-surgery pain wasn't bad and my scars are already fading. I'm very happy.

Oh hi !! I have Dr.Gadeleta over at North Shore .It's a long drive but I really like him !!

So how are you feeling ? Tell me everything !! :)

haha ok here we go-

I used Dr. Geiss at North Shore Syosset. So I actually had a rough time for the first 5-6 days. I think i had a reaction to the anesthesia because i was soooo nauseus in the hopsital. Also, the gas pain is the worst part. Its like you have bad heart burn everywhere and shooting pains through your back, shoulders, and mid section. But by day 4 that subsided for me. The trick is walking around and standing up so the gas can be released.

I also reacted to the Protein shakes so I had to eliminate them. I used carnation instant bfast no sugar added instead of the medifast (which was recommended), which works and tastes great. I honestly wasnt hungry AT ALL until about day 6 (crazy I know!).

I got the single incision which I am VERY happy with- looks like ill be scar free pretty much. But I did get a hematoma (blood clot) under the incision. Not nearly as bad as it sounds. I was just bleeding a lot from my belly button so I went to see the doc. He tried to drain it as best as possible and now Im on antibiotics.

The last day or 2 Ive definitely started to feel like myself. The uncomfortable weird feeling you'll have definitely goes away. As soon as you feel ready try to get outside and walk a little (in the morning before its too hot!) And definitely stay hydrated!!

If you have any specific questions def let me know, im an open book!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
