Doctor Scale and Home Scale - which is correct?

Recommended Posts

If one has a heart condition, as I do, it's very important to weigh in daily in the a.m. If you gain a significant amt., you may be retaining Water and should seek medical advice.

That's a whole different matter, and yes you should scale daily.

I did not gain any weight. I am losing. I stuck to my dr.'s instructions to the tee. I was just wondering why his scale was different from mine on the same day. At the time I didn't think about the time of day and the fact that they weighed me fully clothed. I have hypertension so I do know about retaining Water. Thank you for your comment. A lot of people think the doctor's scale is more accurate when the reality is that it is not (usually). Take one scale, no matter what the quality, and use it as often as they do in a doctor's office and never recalibrate it (which most don't) and you have one inaccurate scale. I wouldn't worry about which one is "correct".

All things being equal (and assuming neither your scale or your doctors is completely out of whack), you both may have different starting weights, but the amount you've lost will be the same.

As long as you have dropped some weight pre-op I don't think they would delay your surgery.

Long term, my own scale is the one I go by. There have been times when I don't even go to see my doc for 9 months. This time it has been 10+ months. I'm going in on May 6th for a tiny fill and then, who knows, it may be a year before I go back and weigh on the scale there.

My scale is 1 pound less than my PCP's scale and one pound more then the band doctor. Also I weigh myself basically nude at home and at the doctors I am fully dressed so about 4 pounds more.

y'all are wearing some heavy clothes! Weigh naked, then put your clothes and shoes on and weigh again. See what you come up with. I bet it won't be 4 extra pounds.

You have to realize that you are in the dr's office with clothes on and most time you have eaten and drank already for that day, i work with alot of nurses in my field i was always told to weigh yourself first thing in am with no clothes on and thats the true weight,When i do that and then go dr its  about 2-3 lbs difference the nurse says thats normal.

We are suppose to wear light clothing, like summertime clothing. If you can't cause it's winter here in Michigan. We are given a gown to were, and all the heavy cloths come off.

Otherwise light cloths, shoes come off, and pockets are emptied before we get weighed. Once weighed you get dressed to see the Dr....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
